Last week we shared several rooms in our holiday homes, but today I am showing off our main living area, our family room where our big tree is so this feels like the big “reveal”. I am thrilled to be joining Marty from A Stroll Thru Life and her seasonal Christmas Tour of Homes. Welcome to those of you coming over from Our Fifth House, I have followed Carmel’s new (6th) house build eagerly, it’s beautiful!
Yesterday I showed off the DIY project I did back in November, creating this garland for our arched doorway and our tree peeked out from behind in the pictures. One of the things I loved about our floorpan is the arches in the main hallway, I wanted to make them live up to their potential this holiday! Hanging the garland was a bit of a challenge (and it hasn’t fallen yet, knock wood) but it so perfectly frames our tree when you enter the house it was worth the extra effort.
Moving into our living room today, here I have our 9′ King of Christmas flocked tree. I purchased that last year for our first Christmas in this home, I wanted a tree that would fit this room. Last year we had it in the corner by the fireplace (to the left in the above picture) but this year, I tried it more front and center. I do like that it’s more central and of course, for the whole garland beauty shot thing, but might be a tiny bit too large for this area. For this year, I am keeping it right here, next year’s location may change again.
As I shared in my dining room post this year I feel in love with these emerald green velvet pillows and then stumbled upon some matching vintage style ornaments at the Lucketts’ Holiday Market so that dictated this year’s color scheme. We spend most of our time in this room, so I moved the pillows and ornaments from the dining room tree to this tree, I think the colors work beautifully together.
I kept our the antelope print pillows we had here in the fall but mixed in a sequined snowflake pillow from HomeGoods and filled up my brass beverage server with ornaments.
I also just showed these beautiful new gray velvet chairs we got right before Thanksgiving from Haynes Furniture. We love them, I got some questions about keeping them clean and I do keep throws on them most of the time since our dog has already decided one of them is his favorite spot to nap. We have to live here so I try not to worry too much 🙂
I struggled a little with our mantel this year, I added some greenery and hung a vintage mercury glass garland (similar here). I’d like the mantel decor to be a little more substantial but there just isn’t room because of the height the TV was hung, live and learn, right?
Finally here is a look at the stairs, I added a boxwood garland to the stairwell with some green velvet bows from ribbon I also found at the Lucketts Holiday Market. It seemed like a shame to cut this 4″ dark green velvet ribbon but I wanted to make sure I used it somewhere visible and the stairs seemed like the best place. My daughter carried the bells hanging at the bottom in my brother in law’s Christmas wedding when she was three, they are another favorite decoration.
Thanks for stopping by and touring our Christmas living room tour this year, you can head over to our friend Christy at Our Southern Home next.
