It’s a big day if you are a sale shopper–today kicks off the annual Nordstrom Anniversary sale. All of blogland is in a spin over this sale because well, there are as expected, some very good deals!
At the same time, we want to be mindful of over-consuming, so over the next two weeks we’re going to share what we really think is worth buying for real women, with real budgets and point to investment, age-appropriate items! As we’ve said before, we definitely are not twenty-something fashion bloggers, just two girls women trying to avoid looking frumpy as we make the most of the ‘middle’ stage of our lives!
So this early sale is only for Nordstrom card holders, and I do bow down to the Nordstrom marketing machine. Christy and I are both cardholders so that gives us early access to the sale, and also gives us some perks like rewards (where you get credit toward your purchases) and triple points days. Yes, I made sure to check the box for a triple points day today when I placed my rather large order! You can get a card here, if you are a sale lover that shops often at Nordstrom it is probably worth it in the same way the Amazon Prime membership pays off in the end, but at the same time, the regular sale starts soon if you don’t want additional credit options.
If you are waiting to shop the regular sale starting July 20th, I suggest adding items to your cart or to your wish list now. The sale items may go in and out of stock, but that way you can plan ahead for what you want to order next Friday. We’ll have more favorites to share at that time, and will also have fit and quality reviews from the items we are sharing today.
So here are my selections from the sale, I had a real budget for items I knew I’d order during the sale. During the spring I’d think, oh I’ll wait for the sale to get that–like AG jeans that have been on my wish list for years, or a new bra (if we really want to get personal!). I also bought some of these items last year and can vouch for loving them, and then there are the things I missed last year and regretted so I scooped them up this morning. I tried to really focus on solid, investment pieces and not just hype the trends, so I’d love to hear if you like these picks!
I’ll start with the jeans, these two pairs are my picks for ones that are worth buying, in two price ranges. I did pull the trigger on these AG jeans, as I mentioned. I wear jeans daily, and several of my pairs were really getting worn out. I want to see how these hold up with that much use, so I’ll be able to report back. They get amazing reviews so I am hopeful they are worth every penny.
I also ordered these boot cut jeans below. I love this brand, and have needed some non-skinny jeans for awhile now. I’ll let you know how these fit, but they are a great price.
Next up as far as not to be missed items are the Barefoot Dreams cardigans, if you have one– you know. I am wearing one right now (yes, in July), I throw mine on over my pj’s almost every morning. I gifted one of these (and I had to pay full price) last Christmas to my Mother in Law, she recently called me to tell me again how much she loves it. I purchased one as a gift this morning, they are such a good deal during the sale so it’s a great time to get ahead on holiday gifts, crazy as that sounds! This is literally one of my very favorite things.
For the same look but for less, here is another great sweater deal. I did not order this cardigan last year during the sale, and I regretted it all fall. I finally bought one around the holidays when it finally came back in stock. I wear mine constantly, and they are a fabulous deal during the sale. I have a blue that isn’t shown here, but they have some great colors on sale. They also have a fun short sleeve version here which is very tempting!
After the jeans, this was the second thing I loaded in my cart. I love the look of this longer tunic. I can see wearing this as a light jacket in the fall, and since I spend time at an insane amount of sporting events with my kids this type of casual sweater is perfect. I am so excited to receive this!
Another very affordable sweater option is this Cocoon cardigan, it’s just $31. I ordered the black just to see if I like it, you can’t go wrong with a basic black cardigan.
This tie-waist sweater also sold out in a hot minute last year, so I quickly ordered one when I saw it was back this year. I love snuggly cardigans in the winter! I especially like longer ones (as you can tell from what I have shown here) because you can wear them with leggings and be comfortable but still look cute.
While we are talking about leggings, these I consider a sale must-buy if you don’t already have them. They are called Live-In Leggings for a reason, I love, love, love mine. I wear them to exercise but also wear them as regular leggings around town. They have a nice amount of compression without making you uncomfortable, and they are thick which is really nice as it gets colder, and best part, is they are high waisted so you feel nicely covered up! They are extremely good quality like most of the Zella line (my favorite for athletic/leisure) and really are too good of a deal to miss during the sale. They have plus size, and cropped lighter ones on sale here too.
Halogen Ponte Knit Leggings $29
While I didn’t stray too much beyond what I planned to purchase today, these leggings found their way in my cart. These seamed leggings were just $29 on sale. I thought they would be perfect to wear with longer sweaters in the Fall and Winter. I’ll report back, but they have good reviews and they are a nice alternative to jeans and the ponte fabric is a little dressier than the leggings above.
At $29 I couldn’t resist these lounge pants, don’t they look soft? These fall into the ‘good deal’ category, they aren’t something I really need but come Fall, I think I’ll be very glad I have them!
At $11.90 I grabbed one of these raw hem t-shirts in white but there are a ton of other colors too. This is the type of thing that is great to pick up at during the sale. A basic tee like this can be worn now during warm weather and looks great under a cardigan in the Fall.
This is another great basic top that comes in solid colors as well. It’s just $29 with cute bell sleeves, perfect for transitional weather.
As soon as I saw these black booties in the sale catalog I knew I’d order them. I needed a black pair all last winter, and I have been enamored with the wedge heel look (so comfortable!). I expect I will get plenty of use out of these this winter! I have to admit, the gray is absolutely gorgeous in these boots too–check them out here.
I am not going to lie, I really want these pink Tory Burch ballet flats. These rarely go on sale, especially in the current year and this classic style flat is truly an investment wardrobe staple. I am sticking to my budget, but had to share these. Isn’t the pink pretty? They have other colors too!
These UGG Moc Toe Flats seem like they are well worth the price. I am so tempted to order them (but haven’t yet)! I love the idea of a comfortable slip-on shoe like these, and both the gray and the red are really fun. These may sell out quickly if you are interested I’d grab some as soon as you can.
Some other items worth a mention as far as deals that are worth looking at are below. I have barely looked through the shoe, jewelry, and accessories departments there is just so much on sale this year! Here are a few more items, I’ll be adding things in as I see them today.
I packed in a duffel style bag when my husband and I traveled last month and I swore I’d never do it again. All my clothes were so jumbled up, I couldn’t find anything quickly, why I don’t have one of these cute pink suitcases I don’t know? This is a great price for the set, and I love the pink chevron. Probably why you see all the fashion bloggers styling these in the airports as they jet around! FYI: The carry on size alone is on sale here for less.
I really love this gray hobo bag from Rebecca Minkoff, her bags were a huge sale item last summer and this one, while it’s a bit more bohemian than my usual style, I really love the casual look of it. It’s a great price during the sale, and it would be a stylish bag for fall.
Since we talked about the pink flats, I have to mention a matching bag! If you’ve been waiting to invest in a Tory bag, there are several in the sale. I really like the gold chain detail on this one.
I’ll wrap up there, though there is so much more! Remember with Nordstrom you always get free shipping and free returns. I admit to ordering things and returning them if I don’t absolutely love them, and I appreciate they are so flexible with that. Especially during the sale, better to grab something and change your mind then regret it all Fall!
One more thing–this is NOT in the Anniversary Sale so you can order it today! If you’ve been waiting for this ruffled top to go on sale, it finally did and it’s going fast. I ordered one in gray, isn’t it cute? Also, if you can’t stomach fall clothes yet or live in warmer climates, there are plenty of good markdowns in this section available for purchase now, see them here.
Enjoy your shopping everyone!
