We are finally in the transition period from finishing up school and heading into summer. I love this time of year, as summer activities and entertaining are always the most fun. We live in the outskirts of the Washington DC area, so summer guests are the norm around here. We most often have friends in town (or entertain local friends) around the 4th of July holiday weekend because DC celebrates Independence Day like no place else!
I try to keep prepping for guests as simple as I can because during the summer nobody wants to be inside cleaning all day. I prepare the guest room, stock up on easy and fresh summer food and then add a few nice touches like flowers and festive decor, then we relax and enjoy the season.
Since we are currently living in a rental home while our new home is under construction, keeping it guest-ready can be a challenge. When you enter our home, you first see the large staircase in the foyer. The carpet runner on the stairs gets a daily workout. Not only do I have three kids, but I have a beautiful but often very messy silver lab.
Our dog treks in and out all day long and she never thinks to wipe her feet (I am kidding of course) but that really takes a toll on our carpets. With two athletic boys, they also think nothing of coming into the house wearing cleats and running straight up the stairs. Recently I noticed the stair carpet needed some freshening up, certainly before we have a house full of company in the next few weeks.
We keep Spot Shot® Instant Stain Remover on hand for all our pet messes. As well-behaved as our dog is, sometimes things “happen” right? Especially when you have a lab that considers just about anything to be edible (oh the stories I could tell!), things that might just find their way back on your carpet if they can’t digest them (TMI? Sorry!).
Spot Shot® makes quick work of pet stains so I don’t have to worry about our guest’s first impression being stained carpet. I simply spray the Spot Shot® on, blot it well with a cloth and the stain comes up.
It is always a good idea to spot test your carpet first, but I find this cleaning product saves the day–quite frequently in our case!
Here is the ‘after’ of my stairs, with about 10 seconds of work that nasty dark stain is completely gone.
