Can you believe Christmas is almost here? I decorated my dining room to include with my holiday home tour during the 12 Days of Holiday Homes, but I ran out of time to photograph it. I decided to snap some quick pictures earlier this week when I was getting ready for our Christmas dinner. I also have some printable menu cards to go with our dinner menu, you can download them at the end of the post.
I actually just swapped out elements from my fall tablescape and added gold and silver decorations on the center of the table {all sources are at end of post}, the lovely snow globe was courtesy of HomeGoods and benefits St. Jude, so it gets a place of honor. My daughter finds it absolutely fascinating, so it will no doubt find a year-round home in her room shortly.
Sadly, my paperwhites were on their last legs when I took these photos, I’ll have to come up with something else for the centerpiece for Christmas. I was so proud that I remembered to start them early, but I never seem to time them right! My mom just told me she was just starting a new batch to have some fresh flowers in the dreary post-Christmas, winter months which I thought was a good idea.
After the holidays this room is on the list to get a little love, starting with my side table. I am on the hunt for a permanent piece that has some storage to replace the table we have here. For now, I just stacked some decorative items and added a favorite ‘Merry Christmas’ banner over the DIY chalkboard.
I decorated each place with a small wrapped gift and a printed menu card. You can download these blank menu cards {click link for printable .pdf} and just handwrite in your menu on them. {tip: if you don’t like your handwriting, print off a copy of your menu first in bold in a font you like, you should be able to see it enough through the paper so you can trace it to keep your letters straight.}
We’re actually having our “fancy” Christmas Eve dinner at my Mom’s house this year, so I borrowed her menu for the cards. We’ll have a more casual Christmas dinner here. We pretty much do the same thing menu year after year, since it is a very simple dinner to make which helps the holidays stay less stressful.
Here are our go-to recipes if you need some ideas:
INA’s PEAR & GORGONZOLA SALAD (I usually use gorgonzola not roquefort)
PRIME RIB {no recipe, we just roast it until medium rare}
PIONEER WOMAN’S MASHED POTATOES
BRUSSEL SPROUTS {Love this recipe!}
ROLLS {purchase or you can make Christy’s version HERE}
And we totally buy dessert!
I tied these sweet bells to the back of the chair, I sometimes hang them on our banister but I actually never decorated that this year despite my good intentions. My daughter carried these bells in her uncle’s Christmas-themed wedding a few years ago. The little girls rang bells instead of dropping flower girl flowers, it was precious and they are a special memory.
My kids are on vacation as of today, and family is coming in town so it’s starting to feel like Christmas around here.
We’ll be back with one more post with another beautifully decorated home before we sign off for Christmas, then we’ll be back after the holidays with some fun cocktail recipes and other ideas for the New Year.
Also, if a $1000 Pottery Barn gift card might be on your Christmas list, our last giveaway was so popular we decided to do another one just in time for Christmas, be sure to check Instagram tonight for details on how to enter and good luck 🙂
