As we do each season, today I am sharing the seasonal decorations in our new home as we head into fall. Four times a year we join up with some other bloggers to show off our homes as part of the tour organized by our friend Marty of A Stroll Thru Life. I have included the links from all the homes on today’s tour at the bottom of this post, and to those of you coming over on the tour from Simply 2 Moms welcome! If you are new here Christy and I are also two moms, and we are also friends, former college roommates, and passionate homemakers which has always includes a lot of decorating! You can read more about us here.
This seasonal tour is a first for us in all our years of blogging together (10+!), in that we styled the decor together for this post. Since Christy and her husband have been staying with us this week, she offered to help me put a fall spin on our home so I could photograph it. Working on it together made it all the more fun!
We have only lived in this home since early June (you can see more about our recent move here), and we’ve been in the midst of several larger renovation projects including our basement, powder room and kitchen, so I haven’t yet been able to focus on all those homey decorating details that come over time. My living room is the one space in our home that is fairly pulled together and just needed a few fall things, like pumpkins and fall florals, to give it a cozy feel.
I use earth tones in this room pretty much year-round so it wasn’t hard to transition this space for fall. I am no longer at the stage where I like to have an abundance of theme-y decor throughout our home, rather I like to add a few things here and there to make the room feel a little cozier as the days get shorter and (ugh), colder. One of the best parts of living in Virginia is that we get all four seasons, and while I am not a fan of the bleakness of winter
I do appreciate the fresh beauty that comes in the fall.
Since this is the first time I have shared this room in its entirety here on the blog, I am including a list of the sources I used to decorate the space. The sofas (see more here) came with us from our last home, but we added a new rug, brass firescreen and brass light fixture to update this space. You can click on any of the items below for more information.
I also wanted to share a few photos on our foyer, at least as it is for now. I have a small round table on order that should arrive in about another month that I plan to tuck in the corner under the stairs but for the time being I have a federal style chest that belonged to my grandmother under the stairs.
I filled the shell with some fall items and repurposed the mirror I had taken down from our powder room to use in here until the new furniture arrives. While I didn’t love this ornate mirror in the powder room I actually kind of like it in the foyer for now, and it definitely has fall vibes! I’ll share a sneak peak of the updates in our powder room at the end, just scroll on down.
As I mentioned we’ve been working through our immediate list of home renovations all summer long, so I have been focused on all those decisions but this fall I am looking forward to having more time to do the decorating that comes as you settle into a home, such as hanging curtains, styling the furniture etc. etc. I am happy to share that our basement is now totally finished so I have several weeks of sorting and organizing as we move back into that space. We couldn’t fully access the space while it was under construction and many of our boxes were stored down there immediately upon moving in. I’ll definitely be keeping busy getting unpacked and that area squared away once and for all.
We also had our small powder room overhauled a few weeks ago, it’s so much better now! I’ll share a full post soon, though I am still on the hunt for wallpaper for the area above the beadboard but here is a quick look.
I hope you are enjoying this early fall season, you can see all the homes on the tour below, but next up is Calypso in the Country–I know you will love Shelley’s home too! As always, thanks for stopping by!

What fun that you styled the room together! Your home looks beautiful and I love all your fall touches. I was just saying how I wanted to hang a sunburst mirror in my living room and yours looks just like the one I have in my shopping cart! The mirror in your foyer looks so pretty too. I love the way it reflects your fall wreath. Always fun to shop your house! Great touring with you – thanks for the shoutout!

Everything looks so bright, sophisticated yet comfy. Loved each vignette and all of the fall accents. And how nice not to need curtains. Even the windows look great. Happy fall.
