Blueberries are in season, and if even if you can’t pick your own, they’re inexpensive in the stores right now.  My daughter eats them by the pound, so that’s good for us!

We usually pick our own when we visit family in Michigan in August, but we can’t make it up north this summer due to some scheduling challenges.  So, I scooped up several quarts for just a couple of dollars at the store a few weeks ago:

 You probably already know this, but blueberries freeze beautifully.  Just pop them in a ziploc bag (unwashed) and freeze them–no special preparation required.  Wash them when they come out and use them in recipes just as you would fresh ones.

My favorite blueberry cobbler recipe is below.  If you like a crumbly topping, then this one isn’t for you.  The batter is more like a dumpling, thanks to the boiling water that you pour over top of everything before baking.  It’s an easy recipe, and shows off fresh blueberries to perfection!  Here’s the recipe:

Serve it with ice cream or whipped cream–or BOTH!  A little lemon zest on top adds zing and color.

And as I mentioned in the recipe, this also works great with fresh peaches.  Those are just coming into their peak down here in Georgia, so guess what I’ll be making this weekend?!
