I am sharing my latest project with you all today, our powder room with some fun new wallpaper! We did a quick remodel on this room shortly after moving in last summer, it really needed a cosmetic update. Below you can see the before, though I am not sure the picture really reflects how dated it was. The small elongated toilet had 1980’s vibes, it had a two-tone faucet, and the vanity was dark wood with wrought iron pulls, all very in style in the early 2000’s when the home was built.
I hired a contractor to update it with a new vanity, new toilet, new mirror, faucet and sconce-style brass light. I also had him add beadboard on the walls. I knew that I wanted to use a fun wallpaper in here at some point and the taller trim would make that process much easier. In truth, I had envisioned 4 inch vertical tongue and groove style paneling, not traditional beadboard, but he misunderstood, though all in all it came out fine.
Since last August when he finished the room it has been a plain, white box. I finally selected a wallpaper and got it hung it last month. There is nothing like hosting large party in your home (as we did last week for my son’s graduation) to motivate you to finish all the home projects!
I looked at all sorts of paper, and had intentions of using something with some blue and painting the beadboard and trim in a blue for a really fun, colorful space. I think powder rooms are a great place to be a little more bold than other spaces, but I fell in love with this baroque toile paper and so black and white it was.
This wallpaper is fairly inexpensive and it hangs easily. It’s pre-pasted, which is in my opinion, the easiest type to hang. It took me less than a day, and I had very few issues with matching the pattern or bubbling.
While I like that the toile pattern fits the traditional vibe of this home, as I was hanging it I noticed the details in the paper. The pattern has all sorts of different animals in it, most of which we have on our property, from chickens, to birds, to rabbits to dogs to deer, which makes it even more special. I am sure that the pattern isn’t everyone’s taste, but I really think it is fun.
Wallpaper is definitely back in style, and I am no longer intimidated by the thought of hanging it. I do suggest using a sprayer to wet the paper and being generous with the amount of water you spray on, other than that, it’s not hard at all to hang especially in a small room.

Lovely powder room!
Do you have a link for the toilet?
Is it one you recommend as far as good flush, adequate water & pressure in flush to keep bowl clean, flushes without clogging, etc?
