Last week I showed you the open shelving we installed in the bar area of the kitchen (you can see it on the right below):
And here’s a better shot:
I had to do very little to this kitchen; it was already pretty fabulous. The cabinets are all custom and a creamy white with brown detailing. If I had to name the style I’d definitely call it French country.
I did give the walls a coat of Sherwin Williams Sea Salt; it doesn’t look as blue on the wall as it does in the photos. I am, however, not in love with it in this space, so I’ll probably be painting again soon.
I love the copper lanterns; I’ve already been asked for the source and I’m pretty sure it’s this one in the copper patina finish.
Do you see my bread box was damaged in the move? The handle is a little wonky now. 🙁
I use the counter space to the left of the refrigerator as my baking station.
Copper pots on the pot rack over the cooktop continue the look of the lanterns.
I’m not going to lie, the ice maker has been absolutely addicting–now how will I live without one in our next house?! And the wine fridge is now full after a quick trip to Raleigh and Trader Joe’s (oh, how I have missed you, TJ’s!!).
The room just to the left of the ovens is my office; it was originally a formal living room but since Sunny dog is too old and stiff to climb upstairs to the office area up there, we made some changes to accommodate him. Now he can be part of the action, such as it is, as I sit at the computer or fill Etsy orders.
Here’s the view back from the office. The window over the sink looks out over the back yard and the golf course. Not a bad view!
The open shelves on the end of the cabinets were fun to accessorize, too.
You might have noticed that we don’t have a spot for our kitchen table in here; that was an easy fix since the dining room (coming soon!) is right around the corner, and the great room is big enough for our big kitchen table. We pushed that up against the big window that overlooks the back yard and we eat there most nights. I’ll show you that room soon, although it’s nowhere near finished!
There’s also a large pantry off the back of the kitchen on the way to the garage. I have big plans for that space that include built in shelving, but first I need to finish unpacking all the boxes!

Lovely!! I know the counters were already there, but can you give me any details? I’m getting ready to start a kitchen redo and my cabinets are similar to yours ( not quite as pretty though). I love the island in the middle too… is it the same color as the cabinets?
Again, congratulations on a beautiful makeover!

Love love your kitchen! Do you have overhead exhaust above cooktop? I’m about to redo our kitchen and have island with broken downdraft cooktop
Christy says
Thanks so much, Susan. We really did luck out with this kitchen!
The cooktop has downdraft exhaust–you just push a button and the exhaust system rises up from the back of the range. Pretty cool!

LOVE this kitchen! Of course, you could make any space look beautiful! 🙂 I forgot to mention it earlier but I’m coveting those bar stools. I’ve seen a couple of styles at World Market that I like…will need to see if these might be available.
We just recently had a new Trader Joe’s open nearby and yes, I’m addicted! So many wonderful items and I love that their flowers are so reasonably priced.

Me again! Love the pot rack and the copper pots. Did you have that in the other kitchen? Perhaps I missed it but looks beautiful here.

Love your new fabulous kitchen!…and those copper lanterns are gorgeous!…
Heather @ Southern State of Mind says
Wow! You have been busy. That kitchen has great bones, but you really know how to class a place up lickety split. Those lanterns are seriously to die for!

I love your beautiful kitchen – your cupboards are the same color as mine with similar countertops. You said that you are changing the paint color from sea salt to ? I was wondering if you could tell me if you have chosen another paint color for your walls that you know you will be using in the future. I am still trying to decide which paint color to use 🙂
Christy says
I’ve already repainted it, just haven’t posted it on the blog yet. Soon! I used Benjamin Moore’s Edgecombe Gray and I love it. The Sea Salt was just too blue with the cream cabinets and warm granite. It was a surprisingly hard color palette to work with!
Good luck with yours–

Abrianna Choate says
What color did you use on the cabinets?
Christy says
Hey, Abrianna–
We didn’t paint the cabinets; they were existing in the house when we moved in. It’s a creamy off-white, though.
Hope that helps–Christy
