We’ve had a great two weeks of guest bloggers sharing their organized spaces for Operation: Organization–it’s always hard to come at the tail end of such talent! Christy and I are wrapping up the series with our own organizing projects; I am detouring us from the organized closet theme we’ve had running and instead showing off my newly refreshed and organized home office.
Giving credit where credit is due, Kate Spade’s style and color scheme(s) consistently seemed to be my inspiration in this space. I paired my white furniture with some black and white, leopard and pops of bright pink–kind of what you’d see in her store, right?
Before I get to the details of the organization, here is the story behind this space. This is surely my happy space in my house; if you are looking for me during the weekday you’ll pretty much find me here. I do everything website-related, run my organizing products business and manage all our family stuff from here–it is pretty much ‘command central’. The decor has been a bit of a work in progress for the last year, I suppose because I spend so much time in here I’ve been constantly tweaking. I started the space for my first One Room Challenge last Fall, revamped it with the new desk last spring and this winter I finally got down to the nitty gritty and got it all organized once and for all.
I’ll include the full source list at the end of the post, but the gold and white console you see behind the desk is one of my favorite pieces of furniture —ever. You can see the whole transformation of this vintage piece, an auction find, here. Originally designed to be a dining room buffet, I repurposed it to hold all my office essentials including papers, office supplies, pens and more. It stores a ton!
The pink boxes I picked up at Michael’s recently and they hold all sorts of receipts, notes and other small things.
I lined the console drawers with my favorite shelf paper and added some small storage pieces to keep things neatly together. This drawer holds stationery, pencils and file labels.
The small drawer in the center contains tape and lots of colored sharpies. I spray painted some plastic bins gold just to make them prettier, I mean why not?
This drawer was a fun project I knocked out last week. I have been collecting small boxes to keep small things separated in them. I added some pink and some black and white scrapbook paper to the bottom of the boxes {see the how-to HERE} to match the office but this was essentially FREE drawer organization and now nothing slides around. I store things like washi tape, business cards from contacts, scripture cards and envelopes in this drawer.
The IKEA wall shelves above the console are mostly for display purposes. The boxes store cards and photos; I am always tweaking them to display pretty things like that sweet “hello” notecard a friend sent me to make the room a happier space.
The large pink flower print is from IKEA, as is the frame {sprayed gold of course, as you know we heart Rust-Oleum gold spray paint}, it inspired the pink touches in the room which seem to be multiplying :). I also have a thing for monograms, you can see them on the plexi file holder and my laptop. Those are available here, because you know your computer needs a monogram!
I hung these two gold clipboards on the wall and they are a scheduling essential. One holds a 2016 calendar and the other a monthly calendar. When we meet other bloggers, Christy and I often get questions about how we coordinate who does what and when for this site, and calendars are our best friends. The clipboards are too pretty not to display, and I know right where they are now that they are on the wall!
In complete “Kate Spade” style, this cute black and white striped box with its pink top– a lucky HomeGoods find–holds files as do the other IKEA organizers on the shelves. I keep business-related files in one large IKEA box, and store gift bags in the one on the other shelf.
Speaking of the other shelf, here is the one on the other side of the window. Again, a little gold spray paint made a huge difference in these inexpensive IKEA shelves, there isn’t much space next to the windows so they fit perfectly.
If you saw the way the room looked a year ago after the one room challenge, I used to have a large table in here. {Fun sidenote: a few years ago my home office was featured in Working Mother magazine, you can see that HERE, and the table was the centerpiece of that room.} Last year I stumbled upon this white desk at HomeGoods and snatched it up. I love the clean lines and that it has two small drawers in it for convenient storage.
These drawers are filled with all the things I use daily…notepads {I am a compulsive list-maker, I am sure you aren’t suprised by that}, labels and stickies for The Calendar Pads, my favorite set of colorful pens and some Kate Spade stationery {a hostess gift from Christy, love!}.
Another fun find is this set of small tiffany blue trays that came from The Container Store, they are perfect for holding tiny things like thumbtacks, paper clips and binder clips. This desk came with the greek key lining in the drawers, hello– perfection– but they are shallow, so these small blue trays fit well in them.
I read in Marie Kondo’s book on organizing that once you create a system, if it’s a good system, things will stay neat. I am finding that to be true. For as much time as I spend in this space, since everything has a proper place for the most part it all stays nicely in order. The rest of my house not so much, but I blame other residents here for that 🙂

I love your office space (and your whole house!) I am redoing my teenage daughter’s room and she loves your white wall shelves with the gold brackets. I saw you sited ikea as the source. Did you also purchase the gold brackets from there? Unfortunately we don’t live near one so I will have to order online so any information you can give me would be appreciated!!! Thanks so much!!!

Redecorating my office at work and I will be using yours for inspiration. Did you spray the shelve’s hardware gold or did they come like this?

What’s up, its good paragraph on the topic of media print, we all
understand media is a wonderful source of information.

Helpful info. Fortunate me I discovered your website accidentally, and I am surprised why this coincidence didn’t happened in advance!
I bookmarked it.
