Beautiful new linen drapes in the Dining Room, and affordable source for custom linen draperies

I am still in the process of tweaking our dining room. It is the first space you see when you come in our home, and even though I have yet to bite the bullet and repaint with a color with more ‘oomph’ than the current color {BM Moonshine, which pretty as it is,  unfortunately looks too washed out with the amount of light in this room}, I did go ahead and make some updates in the room. Painting is on the to-do list soon.

This mini-makeover was inspired by my beautiful new white linen curtains from Barn and Willow. When we had the opportunity to showcase their gorgeous products, I knew that a set of premium-quality Belgian linen drapes would be the perfect touch in this space.

I have struggled with my window treatment selection in here, this is the third pair of curtains I have put up {that saga chronicled here} and these will certainly stick, they are gorgeous.

Like classic white bedding, I have always been drawn to simple but elegant white {or neutral} window treatments. In the same way it makes sense to invest in classic clothing, high-quality linen drapes will stand the test of trends and of course, my constant need to ‘tweak’ a space. Luckily, Barn & Willow works directly with fabric mills so the cost for their custom drapes is quite reasonable, and they have a beautiful selection of fabrics and styles to fit any room.  If you crave the ‘Restoration Hardware’ look in your home, these drapes will work perfectly but for a lower price.

I selected the optic white belgian linen; they created them in a custom size and then lined them for extra thickness. The quality is outstanding, these will certainly remain in the formal rooms of our home for years to come. In hindsight, investing in neutral, high-quality drapes will probably save me money over constantly purchasing and changing out less expensive discount store curtains—chalk that one up to a lesson learned!

Tricky as the room is to photograph into the windows, you can see the beautiful weight of the curtains and the quality of the workmanship. The fabric is thick; gorgeous linen. I haven’t even steamed them as the few wrinkles are just part of what makes them look like what they are, high-quality linen.

I finally went ahead and adjusted the height of the curtain rod that came with our house when we purchased it, now that it’s higher the space looks more pulled together. I would like the curtains to pool on the ground a bit, so at some point I’ll probably adjust the rod down, I’ll spare you the saga that was moving the rod as it is one of those nothing is ever simple stories! That tweak will have to wait till my next found free-time, probably post-painting.

I also swapped out the ornate mirror I’d had in here in favor of a simple chalkboard on the wall. Previously the chandelier and the mirror frame competed for attention, so the chalkboard works nicely until I can find just the right mirror for the space.

Then again, I actually think it is fun to have a chalkboard to feature a menu near a table so it just might stay put for awhile!

Across the room stands our antique corner cabinet that we treasure, and some pretty hydrangeas from my mom’s yard that add the perfect summery touch.

These drapes add quiet elegance to a space that we use to celebrate holidays and entertain friends, I couldn’t be more thrilled with them. Be sure to visit Barn & Willow to see their entire selection and set about customizing the perfect pair (or two!) of drapes or shades for your home.

Is your chandelier the French umber color or the Persian white? It’s beautiful!!

    • Hi Amy–I have the Persian White in the 9-light. I updated the link with a new source since it looks like Horchow isn’t carrying it anymore. Sorry about that!
