Happy Friday! My kids are on fall break this week, and next, because they’re on a modified year-round schedule, and it has been positively decadent to not have to get up early for school. I had big plans to paint my bedroom–and I still think that will happen next week–but mostly I’ve been doing a million little things on my to-do list, which feels great.
Today I shot a bunch of photos of our kitchen; you might remember that I’ve painted it twice since we moved here in June. I don’t have them all edited and ready to go yet, but probably by Monday or Tuesday.
Here’s what we started out with, kind of a gold color:
Here was round one of painting (Sherwin Williams’ Sea Salt), which I love in my daughter’s room but didn’t love in the kitchen. The creams and browns of the kitchen just didn’t work with the cool undertones of the paint.

I repainted using Benjamin Moore’s Edgecombe Grey and love it; it’s got warm undertones and works perfectly with the Revere Pewter that I used in my adjacent office and the garage entryway.

I also took a bunch of photos of the fall decor I’ve added around the house and so I’ll give you a mini-home tour next week, too. Here’s a sneak peek so I can show you the gold fleur de lis tassel I found at Hobby Lobby. It was 40% off in their Christmas section so it was only $6, and it’s huge.

If you follow us on Facebook, then you’ve probably seen this photo of my son and Sunny, the older of our two rescued golden retrievers.
The back story is that Sunny‘s arthritis is getting pretty bad; despite a knee surgery, daily medication, and injections, he’s still a 12-year-old dog who lived a very hard life before we adopted him at age 9. He absolutely loves being outside, especially now that it’s cooling down, so even when he’s too tired to take a walk, Connor will go sit on the deck with him out back (there are always golfers who need to be barked at!), or they’ll go out front so Sunny can sit in the shade. Connor takes his kindle or his homework and, as they’ve done since day one, they snuggle up and just enjoy being together.
The big item on our to-do list for tomorrow is to bathe Sunny; it has to happen before it gets too chilly out. He can’t get in the car without an act of God and lots of medication (for all of us), so we bathe him using the hose and then blow him dry with the leaf blower, which he loves–go figure.
Here are the goodies that arrived in the mail this week from Minted, all for my lucky daughter:
| Book Spine Notecards | Pink Striped Notebook | Dog Walker Business Cards
We’ve used Minted for several years for our business cards, and love them, and we’re going to be working with them on an upcoming review post about their children’s stationery and products, so I’ll be back soon with more. For now, though, I can tell you that as usual the quality is top-notch and the little square business cards for Annabelle’s dog-walking and pet-sitting business are just to die for! Oh, and if you’re an overachiever, they are offering 15% off their holiday cards if you use code EARLYBIRD15. Not that I’m ready for that yet, but you might be!
Last but not least, we share most of our fun shopping finds over on Facebook, but I thought these were worth a mention here, too. These pillow covers are 18 x 18 and that Togo Black dalmatian spot print is SO popular right now (see how I revived a thrift store cane bench using this fabric here). They’re only $13.95 {here}.

And, last week we shared some favorite Fall fashion basics {like this pretty cognac and aqua tote} if you missed them, you can see more of our picks HERE.
Well, that’s the weekly recap from my neck of the woods. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and thanks for stopping by!

I’m excited to see the grand reveal of your kitchen!
On a side note…I can sympathize with Sunny’s arthritis. We have an 11 year old diabetic rescue Lab who seems to have arthritis in every part of his body. I found an amazing supplement that can help…and I love to pass it on. It’s called Golden Paste…it’s made with organic Turmeric, organic coconut oil & fresh ground pepper. Sometimes dogs get a smell after they start the turmeric, so I add 1 tsp of Ceylon cinnamon when I add the pepper. You might give it a go for Sunny…

Thanks so much for passing on the recipe for Golden Paste–I am going to give it a try; anything that will help him!!

I love your Groceries sign above your kitchen sink. I want one over my pantry door!
Christy says
Thanks, Angela. The grocery sign is from Hobby Lobby a few years ago, but I’ll bet it would be easy to make one, too!

I have those same gray/black/ brown granite countertops in my new home and have been trying to think of the right color to paint the maple Amish cabinets. I didn’t think a white would work but then I see your cabinets and I love it. ( I realize it’s not white , but a lighter shade) I see the color you used, but how did u get the darker edges? Sand them or a glaze?
Christy says
Mandy, I wish I could help, but that was a rental home and the kitchen was already done when we moved in. The cabinets were professionally painted and I think it’s a paint or glaze.
