Mother’s Day is just a few days away, and it’s warm and sunny out–where I am, at least.  That means it’s time to blow the pollen off the grill cover and start cooking outside!

Today I’m sharing a super, super easy recipe that is one of my family’s favorites: steak kebabs.  They’re a great idea for a Mother’s Day meal because your kids can easily help with the prep work.

Our most typical combination is to cut up steak chunks, red onion, peppers (red, green, and yellow), and thread them on wooden skewers (tip: soak your wood skewers in water for about 15 minutes first, or try these fancy metal ones). Sometimes we’ll add cherry or grape tomatoes or mix chicken and steak. We sprinkle the meat with salt and pepper, or even a little soy sauce or teriyaki sauce.

Steak Kebabs--Easy Grill Recipe!

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Resting Time 5 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes

Instructions

  1. Cut up steak into cubes. Thread onto a skewer (wood or metal) alternating with red onion and green, yellow, and red peppers.  Optional ingredients are mushrooms or cherry tomatoes.  Sprinkle with salt and pepper, or soy/teriyaki sauce to taste.

  2. Cook over high heat for about 2 minutes per side, so about 8-10 minutes total.  Remove from grill, cover with foil, and allow to rest for five minutes.  Serve over a bed of couscous for a one-dish meal.

Prep your grill and let it warm up while you get the kebabs ready.  We prefer the taste of meat cooked over charcoal so we’ll cook ours that way whenever time permits.

My husband swears by his HomeRight ElectroLight Fire Starter (learn more here, or buy here–it’s a great Father’s Day gift idea!).  It takes just a few minutes to ignite charcoal and/or wood chips, and you don’t have to douse your charcoal with chemicals first. The built-in blower then fans the flames to the desired level of fire needed, so your coals are ready quickly.

We cook our kebabs over high direct heat for about 2 minutes per side (so 8-10 minutes total).  When they’re finished, we cover them with foil and let them rest for about 5 minutes.

Serving kebabs over a bed of cous-cous makes this an easy one-dish meal.

Why not pour Mom a glass or Prosecco or red wine and tell her to put her feet up while she devours the dinner you made her?

At my house on Mother’s Day, the kids and My husband do all the cooking for either brunch or dinner.

We’re going to spend the day with our newly married daugher and son-in-law!

  3. We celebrate mother’s day very casually. A nice homemade meal, long phone calls from my children, and nothing but relaxing for me. On another note—we need this fire starter! I hate the smell (and taste) of starter fluid on my food. Thanks for the giveaway!

  4. I love steak kabobs! We use a gas grill but they are still yummy! Congratulations on your son’s graduation!

  5. This year we went to early church and then out to lunch.
