{And don’t you think the subheading for this title should be, “Even though they don’t really care”? I can guarantee you that mine doesn’t, at least!}
My firstborn is off to college in just under two weeks, and we’ve been scrambling to get everything we need for his dorm room. He is very excited to get to school, but honestly doesn’t care much about his dorm room decor, and that’s fine. We’re sticking with gray and dark red since that’s how his room at home is decorated (see it here), plus those are his school colors (bonus!!).
I’ve linked all the sources for our purchases below, but I also wanted to share a few quick tips. The towels are amazingly fluffy and they were a steal with a coupon and free shipping. The gray striped bedding has been on his bed for several years already (as have the sheets, throw, and pillow), and they layer together perfectly. The fridge is on special for only $99 right now, and the rug is only $84.99 plus free shipping for a 5′ x 8′ size (plus it’s a flat weave, which is great because will they ever vacuum it really?).
For hanging things on the walls, I swear by Command strips and poster putty. And since his school has a requirement that all posters, flags, etc be encased in plexiglass before being hung on the wall, I also found pennant holders that I linked to below.
We spent so much less than I expected that we bought him a set of corn hole boards to keep in his dorm room–always a great way to meet new friends!
Thanks for stopping by~

I know–the guys don’t get a lot of decorating love, do they? But trust me, I’m already looking forward to the day that we decorate my daughter’s dorm room…probably because she actually cares!
Thanks for your comment!
