Simply on Sunday

Hi everyone…hope you have had a great weekend so far. We’ve been freezing at spring sports this weekend but at least the sun is out and shining. My two older boys are on spring break this week, but originally we were told that my oldest would have mandatory lacrosse practices for his high school team over break so we didn’t make any plans for their vacation. The practices were canceled {except for an away game tomorrow night} which is a little frustrating. Next year I won’t make the same mistake!  My daughter isn’t off until next week as her school runs on a different schedule so we have a bunch of fun mother/ daughter/grandmother girl stuff planned then, I am looking forward to having that time with both of them.

Last weekend I tagged along with my husband on a business trip and spend a few days with my oldest friend {oldest as in I have known her since we met in church youth group in junior high, not in age 🙂 }. She and her husband live in a 100+-year-old “fishing”  {what they call it}  cottage on the Severn River in Annapolis, Maryland. They are currently renovating it, and it will be amazing when they are done but this is their gorgeous view off their deck and out their windows. Those who have been to Annapolis know that it is a fun, sailing/boating town with amazing food and shops, if you haven’t, I highly recommend a visit if you ever get a chance to go. Having a few days with her was definitely good for my soul 🙂

I wanted to share a few other things that are good for the soul today. Thanks to a recommendation from Emily Clark, I recently started listening to the Passion City Church sermon podcasts. I spend eons of time in my car driving, driving, driving my kids to sports and activities and school. I have started listening to podcasts to make the time a little more productive.   This podcast entitled “Don’t Waste Your Time” {podcasts HERE} was SO good, I am getting ready to listen to it for a second time and am looking forward to listening to the whole series.

If you are looking for other good podcasts I like the Homemaking Foundations podcasts by Jami Balmet. I listened to some of her episodes last year on a long car trip and really enjoyed them. I am not at the same stage of life {she has two sets of young twins} but I enjoy her perspective on family, faith and keeping the home none the less, especially from someone who truly has her hands full! I also had the Awesome Etiquette podcast recommended {which is done by Emily Post’s great-grandchildren} it is sort of a modern-day etiquette guide which I think will be both educational and entertaining.

Quick Tip: just in case you aren’t familiar, the easiest way to find these is to open the podcast icon on your smart phone and search for any of these, then play! You can subscribe for all episodes if you like.

If you don’t have time to listen to a whole podcast, this is a wonderful article, it is along the same lines as the Passion City “time” sermon. I know it’s a bit tongue in cheek to post this article referencing “pinterest-worthy” homes when here on this blog we share perfectly-staged pictures of our own homes {and subsequently, they are shared on Pinterest} but in the end, we all face the same struggles and insecurities. This article is a great reminder of what really matters during our time here on earth. I hope you enjoy it.

Have a lovely Sunday, friends!

XO,
