We’re detouring a bit from our usual to remind you that next Sunday is Mother’s Day, and of course you don’t want to forget Mom, so consider this your one-week warning.
My own mom has been gone for almost fourteen years now, and Mother’s Day is bittersweet since I lost her {read more here}. Here’s the thing, though–since she died, there have been several wonderful women who have adopted me into their hearts and families, and they’ve done the same thing for my husband and children. They’ve blessed us beyond measure and I’m so thankful for them.
So, on Mother’s Day, of course I remember my mom and the amazing woman she was, but I also honor the women who have loved me in her place.
A handwritten note is one of the nicest gifts you can give anyone, in my opinion, and it doesn’t cost a thing except time. These lovely tags and cards from Amy Locurto are a free download (link below photo):

Amy’s gift idea for teachers would work just as well for Mother’s Day; visit {this} post to download the tags. And while I love the pink roses, when I give flowers these days I like to give potted ones that can be planted and enjoyed for years to come, so I might tie this tag on a hydrangea, orchid, or gardenia, or even a pot of lavender or rosemary.
While I don’t think you have to give the mom(s) in your life an expensive gift, for some of us our love language might be jewelry–just sayin’!
Amy loves this gold bar necklace, and it’s only $18:

I must have slightly fancier taste; one of my favorite gifts ever was this Kate Spade watch from my husband, and I wear it every single day. It’s the perfect size for my wrist.
Want to give Mom some “smells good” as my son used to call it? Here are my absolute favorites in that department:
And if you want a candle or wax burner scent, then Tyler candle is the place to go. Their “Diva” and “High Maintenance” scents are my favorites; try their Glamorous Wash on your sheets and linens if you want them to smell heavenly!
Gifts are wonderful, but I think we all know that they don’t have to be expensive to be meaningful. I treasure the artwork and homemade cards that my kids have given me over the years and have kept them all. Breakfast in bed or dinner on the porch are just as lovely as jewelry or perfume, and a fun day spent together as a family trumps all.
We’ll be in New York City as a family next weekend, doing some touristy sightseeing things and taking my daughter to the New York City Ballet (swoon) and our son to the Met to see Othello. What a great way to spend the day together with the peeps who made me a mom!
Have a beautiful Sunday, and thanks for stopping by.
