Today I’m sharing a few photos from our trip to Ireland last week. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed some time in the country and the city.
We flew in to Dublin last Monday, rented a car at the airport, and then drove out to County Clare. We stayed at a great AirBnB (an old farmhouse) on Monday night and got up early on Tuesday to visit the Cliffs of Moher. They were incredibly beautiful.
We hiked along the top of the cliffs; it was about 8 miles round trip. We started around 8:30am and were the only ones on the trail–it was a lot busier by the time we finished!
Side note: I did ZERO driving while we were in Ireland. My husband thought it would be “fun” to drive on the wrong (left) side of the road in a manual; however, he also flies helicopters for a living. I have a hard time walking and chewing gum at the same time. The roads in County Clare are narrow, too–let’s just say that we had more than one close encounter with oncoming traffic!
Sometimes the oncoming traffic was bovine…although they were very friendly!
On Tuesday evening we drove back to Dublin (about 3 hours) and checked into another AirBnB in Dublin 8. Wednesday and Thursday were spent touring the city and visiting all the Dublin landmarks–from museums to gaols to Jameson and Guinness.
We also tried out several pubs–and they are plentiful.
As you’d expect from an island country, the seafood was excellent, especially the pub favorite, fish and chips.
We finished our day on Thursday with high tea in the Atrium Room at the Westin Hotel, which we highly recommend if you ever visit Dublin.
Friday, we returned to reality and are in the throes of prepping for our move (wish us luck!).
Forgive me for the quick post; things are coming fast and furious right now. We sent our daughter home yesterday to start her sophomore year at Georgetown, and guess who picked her up on the other end? Amy and her husband, of course. She was delayed five hours in Paris so what should have been a 7pm arrival was more like midnight…I’m so thankful for good friends to meet her on the other side!
Have a wonderful day, and thanks for stopping by.
