It is without a doubt fall here in Germany; there’s a chill in the air and the fall colors are absolutely stunning. We love the view from our balcony so much that we just bundle up and continue to sit out there (usually with a hot cup of coffee!) despite the temperature.
A few weeks ago, I found this little brown side table for just $5 at a local thrift shop and knew it would make a great addition to our balcony. The brown wasn’t stain, it was actually paint, so I decided the fastest way to upcycle it would be to paint it white and distress it lightly with sandpaper.
As always, when there’s spray painting to be done, I reach for my Wagner FLEXiO 4300 paint sprayer. It handles every job, large and small, is easy to use straight out of the box, and cleans up in just a few minutes.
So far this year, I’ve used my FLEXiO to paint our mailbox (see it here), the floor of our side porch (see it here), our porch swing, and our wicker porch furniture (see it here).
For smaller projects, like today’s, I use the gravity-feed spray nozzle that’s pictured on the FLEXiO below, except I used the smaller size cup. For larger paint jobs (like my porch floor), the iSpray nozzle is the best choice. All three of these options are included with the FLEXiO 4300.
I began by wiping the table down and letting it dry. If you have any chipping or peeling paint, you might need to sand the surface or even scrape peeling paint off first (be sure to wear a mask!).
I used flat latex paint right off the shelf (no thinning necessary for this project!) and set my material flow setting to medium and the air power to high. The FLEXiO is easy and intuitive to use straight out of the box, but if it’s your first time using a sprayer, just practice on a piece of cardboard first so you can practice adjusting the flow control and spray shape and width.
The benefit to using a sprayer even on a small project like this is fast, even coverage–it’s no fun to paint spindles with a brush! I covered the entire table in about five minutes with one-coat coverage. Clean up is super fast with the FLEXiO, as well. Just rinse it with water for latex-based paints.
After the table was completely dry, I used medium grit sandpaper to lightly distress it.
Now the table fits in perfectly on our balcony with the touches of fall that I’ve added.
Aren’t the trees beautiful right now? I am still in love with our view.
Harley, however, is enamored with the pumpkins!
I’ve also debated putting this little table outside next to our front door; I think it would be the perfect place to put a plant or two to welcome guests to our building. So it might move down there soon, but for now I’m enjoying it on the balcony.
You can learn more about the FLEXiO here; if you don’t have a paint sprayer yet, it’s truly the best one I’ve used.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for stopping by!
