October brings all sorts of fun…pumpkin patches, Halloween, costumes and one of my kids’ favorite traditions–the BOO Bag! If you aren’t familiar with this tradition, you fill a bag with treats, drop it on a neighbor (or friend’s) doorstep, ring the doorbell and then try to disappear before they see you! Then, they follow the instructions included in the bag to then “BOO” it forward.  The recipient is then tasked to drop a BOO bag (or two) to someone else and so on a so forth. Your local Walmart store or Walmart.com is the ultimate resource for all your BOO-ing needs, and be sure to check out www.BOOitForward.com for even more Boo-ing inspiration and ideas!

My daughter has been waiting anxiously this year to get this tradition going in our neighborhood! Nothing is more exciting than hearing the doorbell ring in the twilight only to find treats on your doorstep, right?

This year I gave in to her wish to create BOO bags for three of her closest friends. We are fortunate that her friends’ parents are also some of our closest family friends as well as our neighbors so this idea worked out perfectly. While we’re all really busy at this time of year with sports, work and activities we thought it would be nice to create a movie-themed gift bag that would give each of them something fun to do as a family and we thought a Ghostbusters® theme would be really fun.  We created BOO bags filled with treats, some snacks and popcorn and plan to add the Ghostbusters® movie on DVD so they can each have some quality time together with a family movie night.

Sidenote: if you are looking for ideas for your family movie night Ghostbusters® is available on VUDU  and it will be on Blu-ray and DVD in Walmart stores on October 11th, but it can be preordered on Blu-ray or DVD now!

We started by visiting Wal-mart–they have absolutely everything you need to create a BOO bag all in one place.  That made it so much easier, our store had an American Greetings® display right up front next to the candy so I was able to pick up everything we needed to assemble the bags all at once. We went with a movie night/Ghostbusters themed bag as a fun spin on a Halloween classic.

First we purchased bags, tissue, greeting cards, stickers and tissue paper. Then we moved over to the candy section and grabbed M&M’S®, SNICKERS®, TWIX®, Skittles®, Starburst®, Life Savers®, and snacks like Cheez-It® to fill up the bags. It is Halloween after all and treats are a must!

We gathered up all our supplies and set about putting our bags together. We put one together for each of our special neighbor/friends and another one for my daughter’s teacher {because teachers are always deserving of a treat!}. We’ll sneak that into the school and leave it on her desk when she isn’t expecting it soon 🙂

We included things like snacks, some sheets of stickers and individually wrapped candy so they could divide all the treats up among their family members. We also selected a pack of American Greetings® cards so we could write a special note.

We made sure to include Glow Sticks for trick or treating, it’s always a good idea to tie them to the kids costumes or treat bags on Halloween night so they can be seen while running from house to house in the dark.

Once we filled up the bags, we printed off BOO signs from HERE. The signs can be attached to the front of the bag, then you just insert the instructions inside along with all the goodies so they are sure to know what to do next.

The sign makes sure to tell your recipient to  #BOOItForward–keeping the fun going at this time of year! We also made sure to use green tissue paper–doesn’t it call to mind all that green GhostBusters slime?
