Holiday Open House–Heather from Southern State of Mind

YAY!!! Today is the day 🙂 Break out the holiday punch and grab a comfortable chair-our Annual Holiday Open House series has begun!

Our Holiday Open House will run daily until December 2oth. Each day we’ve invited a special blog guest to bring you a project, a home tour or something special to inspire you for the Holidays so be sure to tune in so you don’t miss anyone. Our line up this year is a group of bloggers who always inspire us, and we’re thrilled to be able to share their holiday homes and projects with you.

To kick the series off this year is our monthly Preppy Party co-hostess, Heather from Southern State of Mind. Her house and decor is always full of inspiration,  I couldn’t wait for this post to see how she put her ‘holiday’ spin on her decor. Welcome Heather!

My name is Heather from Southern State of Mind– and one of the co-hostesses of the Pretty Preppy Party. I am thrilled to share our Christmas home with you today! Fa, la, la, la, la… ‘Tis the season and the halls are decked!


You know that saying “less is more”? Weeelllll…. how about “more is more”?!?! More plaid that is! This year it’s all about nutcrackers, plaid… and more plaid! Because you know I’m all about the plaid, ’bout the plaid…

 

 

 

I used a plaid ribbon as my starting point and pulled the traditional greens, reds and blues into the decor. Oh, and anything I could find that was plaid was fair game! 

 

 

 

When in doubt, I just added more plaid. I used scarves to drape over our Slipper Chairs, and an old Lands End throw is the Christmas tree skirt. 

 

My mother-in-law started a Nutcracker collection for my husband years ago. When we bought our house she gave them all to us and has not stopped buying them every year! We have quite the collection at this point and it’s fun to pull them out every year.

 

I ordered monogrammed stockings from Pottery Barn a few weeks back. I had been holding off on family stockings until the family was “complete”.  With baby boy’s arrival this summer, it was finally time and I LOVE them! 
 

 

 

When I ran out of plaid, I added polka dots! 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I also made this Magnolia Leaf wreath and had to highlight here at 11 Magnolia Lane! It was super simple, and would you believe it only cost a buck?! 
 
This guy greets you at the front door. Funny story… the three year old calls the Nutcrackers… Coconuts. Almost kiddo. 

 



The guest bedroom got a little sprucing with some leopard and…

you guessed it! PLAID!

 

 

This was the first year the little guy is in a big boy room. So he got some Christmas spirit too!

  2. Oh how simply beautiful and festive the plaid lends to the Christmas decor…such a classic…I am crushing on the many beautiful patterns throughout the room…the nutcrackers are wonderful..such a treasured collection. Beautiful, beautiful room Heather!!
