When it comes to holiday decorating, I find myself drawn to fresh, natural elements and classic colors. I try to pack as many fresh and real elements into our home that I possibly can – a fresh white pine tree, fresh cedar garland, frasier fir sprigs for my window box and boxwood wreaths. I also have many pots and bowls planted with blooming paperwhite and amaryllis bulbs. I use red as an accent with grosgrain ribbon on kraft paper packages, stripes on my natural linen napkins and cozy throw pillows on our sofa.
This table setting is a great example of what I love – traditional mixed with rustic elements presented in a clean and fresh style. I love the structure and symmetry the classic boxwood topiaries add to my table. I mix my traditional Spode “Woodland” china with natural linen napkins that have just the right amount of red to create a simple, but festive setting. Hand-dipped taper candles in a creamy color make the table feel special and dressed up for dinner.
When I’m decorating a room with seasonal touches, I think a lot about balance. I have our fresh White Pine tree in one corner, then place a boxwood wreath opposite in the large window. Spreading out the green in the room makes it feel more natural and comfortable.
I love these Nordic style pillows (from Pottery Barn). They are a classic, comfy and cozy – everything I like my house to be. Our Elf on the Shelf, “Sweetheart,” has the best seat in the house!
In keeping with the natural and authentic theme, I selected this White Pine tree that is indigenous to our region. I love its wispy and soft needles.
I keep our tree really simply decorated – only “real” ornaments. This is Emma’s First Christmas ornament, with our “Seaside, Florida” ornament from our wedding hanging in the background.
This is Mr. Darcy’s stocking… ours are still a work in progress : )
I accent with potted bulbs and our nativity set, of course.
I always wrap our packages in kraft paper. This year I am using red 2″ grosgrain ribbon and natural cotton ribbon stamped with our names. I’ve also designed these sweet little “We Believe” tags for gifts from Santa.
I try to decorate all of the corners of our house for the holidays with small little touches. Here in the kitchen, the paperwhites are potted, a wreath is hung and my red and natural linen tea towel is draped over the sink.
Of course, my kitchen wouldn’t be complete without a lot of homemade treats and gifts. I have them all packaged in my products – wooden baking baskets, kraft paper cookie boxes, cello bags and ribbons.
These Copper Cookie Cutters are my absolute favorite thing this holiday – so classic. I’m giving these as favors at our cookie decorating party next week.
Here are more tags from my Printed Collection – “Let It Snow” and “Frasier Fir”
I like to place little props around the house like these vintage ski poles and a sleigh outside. Here is my Emma looking at our festive window box!
I used fresh Cedar around the door and in the urns, then filled them with sparkly ornaments.
Thanks for coming along on my Holiday Open House – I hope you have a great holiday season! May your heart be light : )
