Hello! We are concluding our Holiday Open House Series sharing my home {today} and on Sunday we’ll show Christy’s home decorated for the holidays. It is hard to follow the amazing homes of our guest hostesses over the last few weeks {all the links are at the end of this post if you missed any} but since it is the “most wonderful time of the year” we’ll make the most of it and show off all our festive decor as well!
This is our first Holiday in this home, which always brings some new decorating challenges and I am joining those that say they cut back on decorating this year. After a week I was tired of the bins laying around and decided what we had put up was enough, and you know what? I think it is. Unfortunately, some of my favorite holiday decor has not unearthed since our move last spring–how does that happen? I did add some new things in the mix this year so I suppose it evens out. I am hopeful the missing box will emerge, probably sometime in the middle of summer, right?
Anyway…Welcome to our holiday home!
Our front door with its seasonal wreath.
Just some simple decor in the front hall, it is a very small area under the stairs, so not much is needed.
I love my large shell, its been perfect to hold a random assortment of ornaments. I like them so much they may stay up until Easter!
Just to the right of the foyer is our Library. This room is currently black and white with pops of green and animal prints mixed in, so I carried that into my holiday decor this year. Just for fun.

This room holds “my” tree, each year I decorate this tree however I want–we have another “family” tree in our main living room with all the colored lights and handmade kids’ ornaments you could ever need. This tree is mine; for the first time this year I broke from my “white” tree decor I went a whole new route with some fun black, gold and leopard.
I think its fun, my husband not so much. “Black is not a Christmas color” I have been told.
My Christmas present came early and I couldn’t wait until the 25th to open it. I have long hoped to own a Lindsay Letters canvas, and after much deliberation {they are all fabulous}, I settled on the Doxology canvas. I went back and forth between the “Oh Holy Night” as it’s my favorite Christmas carol and in red would have been FABULOUS, but the Doxology I can use after the Holidays, so in the end it won out and I adore it.
I am planning a fireplace makeover very soon–that red brick is not my taste, but I suppose it fits in well during the holidays. {update: it’s done! You can see it HERE}
I keep my Family Room decor neutral and am working in rotating in seasonal colors rather than totally redecorating the room. Obviously, for this time of year, I am using red, I will switch it out for another (TBD) accent color in the spring.
Our new console in the hallway got spruced up with some green and silver decor.
We store our children’s Christmas books {we have been collecting them for years} on the bottom shelf, a random aside is that this is the best book ever about Santa Claus, it tells in detail how he works, builds toys, covers the world in one night– complete with diagrams– my kids love it and probably “believed” for several years longer thanks to this wonderful book.
Between the family room and kitchen, our “Bar” area is ready for holiday entertaining. The “Joyeux Noel” plate was a lucky find at Luckett’s during the holidays last year.
I haven’t decorated too much in our kitchen, but on whim I added a fresh garland over my Breakfast Room windows instead of as planned on my stairs.
I wasn’t sure if I’d love it, but I truly do. The room was looking pretty plain before, and now looks so festive.
The whole room looks much more in the “spirit” now, and since this is the view from the kitchen where I spend many, many hours, it makes me happy.
I finished off the room with a little chalkboard and my attempt at Chalkboard Art.
Thank you for joining my holiday home tour today, it’s been lovely to have you.
I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Joyful New Year!
