DIY chip rack maximizes vertical wall space in a pantry | 11 Magnolia Lane

Of course we all want to maximize every inch of storage space in our pantry.  We just turned a closet next to our kitchen into a pantry {here}, and since it was originally going to be a half bath, it’s by far the largest pantry we’ve ever had.

For years, I’ve used two “real” chip racks in my pantries, and they’re also fun when I’m providing chips for parties or school activities:

Even though I love these racks and I obviously have plenty of room for them in our current pantry, that’s not always the case.  And that’s why my friend Ashly’s idea is so handy; she utilizes the narrow section of space between her shelves and the pantry door:

Ashly used a spray-painted yardstick and curtain clips; I tweaked her idea just a little bit and this is what I came up with:

I still used curtain clips, but I used 1″ x 8″ finger joint trim instead of a yard stick.

I already had the clips and the trim board left over from another project.  I just removed the rings from the curtain clips using pliers and spaced them on the board about 3″ apart (I cut my board to 54″ but obviously this is completely customizable).  I used 18 clips total.

You could paint your board to match your wall color, but I left mine white since my shelves and DIY plate rack are also white.

I used epoxy to glue my clips to the board and let them dry overnight:

I attached it to the wall using two nails from my nail gun, one at the top and one at the bottom.  Obviously it’s only going to be holding very light weight items.  If you’re renting and have a picky landlord, you might even be able to use three or four Command strips to adhere it to the wall.

Depending on what items you already have on hand, this is about a $10 project, and so easy!

Love this idea. I just recently saw small command adhesive cilps that would work too!
