Hi everyone, how is your holiday weekend so far? This weekend is always my daughter’s spring dance recital so we don’t get to escape to the beach or anywhere exciting, but I guess it is nice to miss holiday traffic.  So, did you scoop up anything good at the Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale?

I am going a little off topic again today to talk a bit about health and beauty. I mainly cover this stuff through my Health Newsletter, as you may know, I have been fighting chronic Lyme disease for 5+ years so I am always on the lookout for ways to improve my health and feel better. I’ll share more soon but I am happy to say over the last month I am seeing HUGE health improvements through lifestyle changes including switching to the Paleo/AIP diet {subscribe to my newsletter, link at end of post, if you would like to know more!}. One thing that is crucial to my well-being is that I have to minimize my exposure to toxins, such as chemicals in food, mold in my environment and the products I put on my body.

I wanted to share my experience with Beauty Counter with you today. I first heard about Beauty Counter more than a year ago, when I read about the products on some health/paleo blogs. By now, you’ve probably heard of the company, there has been a great deal of buzz about them recently because of the safety of their ingredients and their lobbying efforts for better beauty. Also, since the products are pretty fabulous so women are sharing them with other women in the way we do!

I am not one to jump into a new skincare line {my last one I used for 10 years!} but when I started researching this line and read about the purity of the products, I decided I should try it out. That was last winter, I wanted to make sure I was 100% thrilled with the products before I shared my endorsement here with you all.

I am essentially a ‘canary’ {of the canary in the coal mine analogy}, my system is so sensitive it reacts to exposure to chemicals that wouldn’t bother the average person. However, when I think about that, in some ways it is a blessing to have a built-in early warning system because not reacting probably doesn’t mean what you are putting on your skin is safe, especially over the long term. In fact, a few years ago I had a major reaction to a ‘natural’ night cream which spiraled my health downhill for days, so not everything natural is safe. I don’t even want to think about the chemical-laden ones…

Due to my sensitivities, I am a bit of a zealot about the idea that what we’re putting ON our skin is absorbed by our body in the same way that our FOOD is, and with so so little regulation in America over the mainstream cosmetics industry that is kind of a scary thing. I am not sure any of us yet understand the implication of years of slapping chemicals on our hair and our skin and letting it sink in and be absorbed. Then we wonder why our disease rates are skyrocketing, especially among women.

Over the last six months I started using Beauty Counter skin care {I jumped in and bought the entire set} and then, added the Beauty Counter + skin oil. Holy moly, it has changed my skin! My skin is softer, smoother and literally feels different, more on that below.  I am so pleased with the results, because of course safety is great but feeling beautiful is even better.

Here is the good part–I decided to share all this with you today because, and I have been waiting for something really good to entice you to try it–this weekend there is a great promotion, if you purchase $150 in Beauty Counter products you get a FREE FULL SIZED product. So, you can get a jump start on switching over to safer skincare and get either a free eye cream {$35 value}, or a free day cream {$43} or body butter {$39} if you purchase today or tomorrow.

In addition to the skin care, I also highly recommend the makeup, the lipstick feels like butter on your lips and the mascara gets rave reviews!  Beauty Counter offers several options to purchase their products, of course you can shop retail simply by clicking through my website HERE. I am truly grateful if you do, it helps support the cause of better beauty and my commitment to changing the way women think about what they are putting on their bodies.

The second option is to become a Band of Beauty member. This graphic below shows you all the goodies you get {this is option Christy does} by joining for $29.

As you can see you pay a $29 membership fee, but this weekend you get the free gift {AND you also get a free lip balm} and a 15% product credit on each order toward your next order plus free shipping.

So, you can build your skincare collection by purchasing an entire set {which qualifies you for the free gift}, or buy several skincare products to get you started such as the Eye Cream, Night Cream with some sunscreen, some foundation, and shampoo and then you get the Free Gift {like the day cream, a $43 value). These products are super concentrated, I have been using mine for 6 months and I feel like I have barely made a dent in them. Just a product note: Beauty Counter has two formulas for skin care the “Rejuvenating” line is the anti-aging line, the “Nourishing” line is their regular skin care. I am currently using Nourishing but plan to up my game to Rejuvenating when I reorder.

I mentioned this above but this is the Facial Oil product I use. I know it may sound crazy to put oil on your skin especially if you have a history of breakouts but this is the most amazing product. I literally can’t believe the difference in my skin from using it, it looks brighter and feels so much softer. I feel like the worst of my lines are being minimized and I promise I am not just saying that!

I also love the lipstick, it just feels amazing when you put it on and I am getting ready to order the mascara. I read on another blog that since she switched to the Beauty Counter mascara she feels like she is losing fewer lashes, plus it did win an Allure Magazine beauty award which says a lot.

Finally, please let’s talk about sunscreen. I already have had to have a spot surgically removed from my forehead thanks to years of not using enough sunscreen. Now I try to be diligent, but I hate the idea of layering a bunch of chemicals on me {or worse, my children!} just to be safe in the sun. I have tried other natural brands but they don’t really do a great job of protecting my skin, so this is such an important product. I also love the face stick, perfect for protecting my fair-skinned daughter, hopefully she’ll have less wrinkles than I do when she is my age 🙂

You can see all the sun products HERE.

I promise that you won’t continue to hear from me about this line on this blog but I thought this deal was too good to keep to myself.
