Vinyl House Number Giveaway (because you asked for it!)

Good morning! A few weeks ago, I took an unscientific poll on Facebook: would you like me to do a giveaway of vinyl house numbers, similar to what I have on my front door? The answer was pretty overwhelming, and of course it was YES!

Mine have been on my door for almost two years and look great still. If you change your mind, warming the vinyl with a hair dryer before slowly peeling it off works really well. I’ll probably have to take mine off to paint the front door (when it warms up!), but then I’ll put another set on–I get so many compliments on them!

The porch decor may change with the seasons, but the numbers stay the same!

Here are the details of the giveaway: it will run until Monday, March 11th, at noon central time. If you win, I’ll make you a set of custom house numbers in white or black, similar to the style on my door (don’t stress me out by asking for fancy scrolly cursive or stuff like that–mkay? I’m strictly an amateur here!). I’ll have you measure to make sure they’re just the right size for your door. I might ask you to email us a picture when you put them up, so we can see how cute they are!

New Years’ Organizing Giveaway

We ran a giveaway a few months ago with almost exactly the same items (shelf paper and chalkboard labels), and it was so popular with everyone that we knew it would be great to have a re-run in January, the month when everyone is organizing and tweaking their decor. So, here’s what we have for you this week:

Two packages of turquoise-blue chevron shelf paper (four rolls, total), and twenty chalkboard vinyl labels. Tell me you can’t think of a thousand ways to use these! These are the same exact chalkboard labels that I used to organize the shoe boxes in my closet:

Of course, you don’t have to organize your shoes with them. Maybe you need to label toy bins in the playroom, or organize batteries and lightbulbs in the closet. You might want to use them on flour, sugar, and other dry goods in the pantry, or to label your laundry supplies. I could go on and on! You’ll soon realize that you could use hundreds.

The chevron shelf paper is like this gray pattern that I used in my dining room on the panels of my buffet (but obviously, it’s turquoise):

Amy S., who just happens to be a good friend of mine, used the rolls that she won in the last giveaway to line the back of a gorgeous antique cabinet, and it looks awesome. One of our readers, Nicole B., told me on Facebook that she used some to cover her KitchenAid mixer. That is probably the most creative idea I’ve heard yet, but I’ve also used a different roll (brown zebra, if you must know) to cover a drum lampshade, a round wooden tin, and the door panels on my daughter’s armoire, because I’m reworking her room once again. The fabric under the giveaway goodies is her new duvet comforter, by the way.

Home Goods/ TJ Maxx Gift Card Giveaway AND My Magazine Debut!

Well, I’ve got two fun things to announce and it’s hard to choose what to talk about first. I think I will have to show you…drumroll, please…my laundry room in a magazine!

I stopped into Lowe’s yesterday just to see if the January issue of Cottages & Bungalows was on newsstands–and honestly wasn’t expecting to see it yet–but there it was! I bought two copies and turned to page 13. There was my laundry room! Yeah!

I entered Whisperwood Cottage’s Organizing Solutions Talent Scouting Party in September, and was so surprised (and pleased!) in October to be chosen as one of the six winners. The process was easy, because they used my photos instead of coming out to do a shoot (you can read about my kitchen photoshoot, which will be on newsstands soon, {here}), and everyone was so very kind and easy to work with.

I think the part that makes me happiest is that one of the editor’s favorite things was my grandmother’s aqua Ball canning jars, that I use to hold borax, Oxyclean, and baking soda. Grandma’s going to turn 94 in a few days, and I’m going to send a copy of the article to her in her card so that she can see her jars in print!

Okay, now, moving on to the next fun thing…

We hit 1,000 Facebook fans just a couple of days ago. Thanks so much to all of you! I do most of the Facebook posting, while Terry handles Twitter and Amy handles emails and blog administrator duties (she has the hardest job, by far!). Fabric Steering Wheel Cover Giveaway

Happy-Almost-Thanksgiving! I’m sure everyone’s busy getting ready–cooking, cleaning, and gathering the family close. Whether you head out for Black Friday shopping activities or not (I’m skeered of all that craziness so I stay home and put up my Christmas tree!), we have a giveaway that you can enter from the comfort of your home, with cup of coffee in hand and bunny slippers on your feet.

Not too long ago, one of our readers posted a comment on our Facebook wall and mentioned her Etsy shop. I love to check out what everyone else is up to, so I headed over for a look. Who knew you could customize your car with a fabric steering wheel cover?! Not me–but what a fun idea! As someone who spends A LOT of time in her car, I’ve often joked that I need to decorate it. This is a great way to do it!

Patty V sent me this pretty damask steering wheel cover in my favorite colors–black and white. It goes perfectly with my black car and gray interior. It’s very well made, and I can wash it in cold and hang it to dry if I get it dirty. It fits my Volvo steering wheel like a charm (she’ll have you measure just to be sure and she can make them to fit any wheel size).

We chose this one to give away, because the red and white will be SO fun for Christmas (decorate your car–yeah!), but will also pop at other times of the year. It’s also a damask pattern:

Decorating a Dream Nursery

Is there anything sweeter, or more sentimental then decorating a nursery for a new baby? In all my homes, my baby rooms will always be the most special to me. The 9 (long!) months you wait for the arrival baby are the perfect time to create a special place for the newest member of your family.

There are so many tools out there now that can help with this huge decision–colors, decor, theme, gender nuetral? (or pink or blue?) The inspiration is just endless. Oh to have had Pinterest back when I was planning a nursery…

This nursery, by Windsor Smith, is one of my all time favorites. It must have been designed for twins, and it’s perfection.

Restoration Hardware Baby & Child has taken sophisticated baby rooms to the next level, I often find items in this catalog that inspire decor in other rooms of my house. The luck of a baby to sleep in such an elegant space.

Do you remember this gorgeous nursery we featured last fall? What I love is how timeless this room is. It will be perfect for their daughter until she goes to college.

As I decorated my three rooms, the thing I always struggled with was choosing a paint color. My husband swears its a “being pregnant” thing but the perfect paint color was ALWAYS wrong when it went on the wall…my first son’s nursery was more “periwinkle” then blue (very masculine, huh?) and my second son’s room was much more “apple green” then light green. We lived with it, but my perfectionistic self would have preferred the color to be closer to what I hoped for.
