Baby Nursery Reveal!

Baby boy K will be here in the next couple of weeks.   My family and I are trying to be patient but now that his nursery is complete and I am simply ready to meet our baby boy.   I find his room incredibly peaceful and I am drawn to it’s simplicity.

Baby Nursery

The white crib, drapes and bedding are angelic and pure.  They are the Vivian Drape from Ikea.  Two 56 X94 drapes come in each $10.00 pack.  I used them on the windows but I also used them to create the crib skirt since it was cheaper than buying fabric and sewing my own crib skirt.  I simply tucked them under the mattress so I can re-purpose the drapes once he is grown.

The turquoise and grey flags were designed by Amy.  She had the guests at my baby shower write well wishes on the back of each flag.  I think they add a pop of much-needed color and provide a sentimental touch to his room.   The star mirror came from a second hand store and I love that it has both gold and silver.  The light is from Home Depot and was under $75.00.

Map Baby Nursery

Don’t just love those vintage map letters?  That was a gift from my in-laws and really make the room extra special.  I added a ruffled table cloth to an existing round table.  The lamp was spray painted blue for an added pop of color.   The rocking chair has been with me since the beginning! I have rocked, fed, and read to my wonderful boys in that comfy chair so changing the fabric was just difficult for me to fathom.  I have loved that chair 8 years ago and continue to love it today.  I think the blues and greens in the map letters forgive the added shades of sage and cream.

Night stand Nursery

This dresser came from a local antique store.  I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep it original but I have to say that I love the wood and the brass handles.  I simply works for this room and adds that vintage feel.  The photo display was challenging for me.  I like how it turned out but I really stressed out over the layout.  Check out the gazelle head– it is my favorite piece on this wall.

Back from Hibernation

Hi all, I am back from my winter hibernation. After some much needed R & R, the warmer weather has definitely gotten me motivate to begin some spring cleaning, yard work and of course decorating.  I promise to share all my fresh spring projects here at 11 Magnolia Lane.

As you know I started working on my boys bathroom last month and I am thrilled to share….it is finally complete (well almost:)
I still need to frost their medicine cabinet mirror and possibly hang a new light fixture.   I couldn’t wait a day longer so I wanted to share my “almost complete” boys nautical bathroom.

These adorable metal stars came from my sister-in-law Holly.  They were the perfect accent for that navy blue wall.

The boy’s grandfather is a ferry boat captain in Hilton Head, S.C.  It really makes their room extra special and very nautical.

I love this basket from Home Goods!!

I trimmed out the mirror with white molding- it made a huge difference.  You can see the before shot on my Nautical Valance post.

Happy sailing!

Home Tour {Part 1}

I have been working on photographing each room in my house for the purpose of providing photos to our real estate agent for when we put our house on the market in a few weeks, and more importantly, so we can remember this home by. {We are moving b/c of my husband’s job, and its a good thing, but we will miss where we currently live quite a bit, so its bittersweet}. I also want my children to have pictures to remember this house when they began to grow up. Two of them came home from the hospital here so its always going to have special memories for us.

So…here are some of the rooms. I have lots more work to do but here is a quick look at what is “ready” to grace Zillow, MRIS, Realtor.com etc. I know I only look at the houses for sale online with photos…so I figured this was a good way to record my home for posterity and give the Realtor some shots to use.

My two boys share a room, and its never this neat, so I quickly took pictures! (I am going to follow up with a post on this room in the near future.)

So, more pictures to come. And, we are hard at work on a Home Tour of Christy’s Historic Home…Stay Tuned!

(and if you know anyone looking to move to Virginia I know of a great home for sale…(LOL)…)

Red, White, and Blue–What Else Could a Boy Want?

Oh, what a week!  TGIF for sure!  Before I start packing for a quick trip to Florida (it’s too darn cold in North Carolina), I felt inspired to do a quick post on my son’s room.

Everything’s clean right now in my house.  My awesome cleaning crew came this morning (I would rather give up running water than my housekeepers!) and it all looks and smells GOOD.  This afternoon, a realtor came over because our gorgeous house is going on the market.  :(   Let me know if anyone needs a beautiful, historic home in North Carolina, OK?

So, while everything was clean, and my son had all his Lego put away, I thought I’d snap a few pictures, because who knows if when it will ever happen again?

My husband is in the Army, and like most boys my son LOVES all things related to hunting, war, and the like.  So we just went with that theme and covered the room with my husband’s military prints and souvenirs, and made the room into our little boy’s young man’s dream.

Uncle Sam wants you! OLD Pottery Barn Kids helicopter bedding and an Uncle Sam poster set the theme.  Sorry for the glare–there are three windows in this room and it’s always super-bright.

See the world as an Army Ranger! (Cigar boxes, globe, and binoculars optional)

If you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace in your room (I’m not), then put a HUGE Army-guy print above it!  (Note a few lingering Legos in the wooden soda boxes and on top of the armoire–like cockroaches in the South, they are impossible to completely eradicate!).

I have to include a picture of the tabletop air hockey table I found at Goodwill for $12.99.  I giggle every time I see the one in Pottery Barn Kids for $169.00.  SCORE!

This World War II Navy foot locker belonged to my son’s great-grandfather.  Even though it messes up the Army theme of the room it’s pretty cool, huh?

The crazy quilt has a couple of medals pinned on it (ones that were given to me as an Army wife, so they’re not very important:).  The silk pilot’s map is probably the most valuable thing in the room, but all aviators need one!

The blue table was my great-grandmother’s, but I’ll admit that I spray painted it blue (after I spray painted it white for awhile).  Doesn’t every little boy need a gumball machine in his room?  I scored it at an antique show for $25 and all the kids love it.  Plus, it enforces saving, although right now I have it set at 5 cents, which I consider a bargain!  Oh, and notice the camp seat that my son made at Cub Scout camp last summer (it’s to the left of the bed).  I have it holding a stack of books since we never have enough bookshelf space.  I just wanted to keep it real–I love to decorate, but there’s always room for the homemade, well-loved, and even downright ugly in my house!

Stay warm this week and I’ll be thinking of you this week from sunny Florida.  Oh, and I’ll be thinking of my poor, sweet husband who has to stay to work and take care of the puppy.

One gratuitous puppy shot for the road.  15 weeks and 33 pounds–heaven help us!
