Terry’s Baby Shower Part 3 {Favors, Banner and Details}

This is the last post on the fun baby shower we hosted for our Co-Blogger Terry a few weeks ago. You can see the recap HERE and the details on the paper products like the invites etc, HERE.

While many of these details fell to my co-hostesses I would be remiss if I didn’t share them with you. What a lovely job they did!

The cutest part {though its really hard to chose just one part!} was probably the favors. Christina handled this little detail, and they were adorable.

Queen Bee is for Baby Shower

She found these bags on ETSY, and ordered them in our color scheme. Inside the bags were assorted teas packaged in a little bag and a little jar of honey with “sweet baby boy” on ribbon wrapped around them. The honey came from HERE. She also included a honey spreader, so cute! Each was packaged up with a little matching gift tag.

We also made a decoration for the baby’s room at the party. At the time Terry was thinking the room decor would be turquoise and gray, but like you all, I am waiting for the “reveal” to see what she settled on. Going with the rumor at the time, I purchased scrapbook paper in that color scheme. I actually couldn’t find gray chevron so I printed some sheets with the chevron then cut it down into triangles. We asked each guest to write a note to the baby on the back of each pennant, and hopefully she will hang it in his room as a keepsake.

The chair ties and table linens came from HERE {for reference it was cheaper to buy them then rent them, so they will likely show up at some future Magnolia Lane events!} They added so much to the festive feel of the Tea Room. Terry’s Queen Bee sash came from HERE.

I think I have covered it! This baby will be here soon and we can’t wait to welcome him :)

XO,

Amy

Terry’s Baby Shower Details {The Invitations, Menus and More}

queen bee marked

Hi everyone! We took a much needed family vacation to a Magical Kingdom last week (I am still recovering!) so I am just now responding to all your nice comments and am back with more details on Terry’s Baby Shower. If you missed it, the first post on the whole fun event is HERE.

Queen Bee Baby Shower

A whole team (well, three!) of us worked together to pull this off. Our friend Trinity {see the shower Terry hosted for her HERE, and her baby nursery HERE} and our friend Christina. We divided and conquered the tasks, thank goodness for Pinterest, where we used a “secret board” so Terry couldn’t see all our pins during the planning process! Terry has thrown some lovely parties/events for each of us –and for many others as she is an event planner by trade– so we wanted to make the most of the chance to spoil her for a change!

Today I wanted to share how we did some of the party decor, in particularly the paper. I am so pleased with how the whole event came off, but none of the details were very complicated.

I will begin with the invitations. I have the advantage of having had a business making wedding and event invitations, so these weren’t hard. Once we decided on the Queen Bee theme, I knew I wanted to use the yellow damask paper available through my paper supplier Envelopments. {NOTE: Envelopments has the best papers for DIY invitations but its only available through dealers. As luck would have it, I am a dealer for them so email me at 11magnolialane@gmail.com if you need invitation paper to DIY, they have GORGEOUS paper!}

paper for invitesCreating invitations like this is not difficult at all. I have design software but you can simply create a file in any word processing program and print on white cardstock. I used a Bee Graphic from The Graphics Fairy on the top, and then added text. I ordered the paper in both full sheets and 5×7″ cardstock, but you can always cut the regular sheets down to your preferred invitation size which is slightly cheaper but a paper cutter is essential for straight lines, FYI.

invitationsI simply taped the white paper invitation to the cardstock with double-sided tape, the extra layer makes the invite special, adds color and I think the extra thickness makes it feel ‘fancy’ :)

I also lined the envelopes, an extra step for sure, but my favorite special touch. I used scrapbook paper from Michael’s in a variety of patterns, honeycomb, polka dot etc. I made a template out of plain white paper first, and traced it on the back of the scrapbook paper and then cut the shapes out, then you just tape inside your envelope with double-sided tape or even glue.

The final touch was sealing the invitations with a small piece of yellow damask washi tape {found at Michael’s} because I couldn’t resist!

menu card on table

Using the same technique, I made Menu Cards for the table. I also used plain black scrapbook paper, cut a shape I liked out of it and wrote on it with a chalkboard pen to make each guest a place card.

menu card

I added a small square of paper to make the menu card stand up and they were placed along the center of the table.

bottles doneAnother easy touch is to make little custom water bottle stickers. Again, this is SO simple. We intended to send these home with the guests, but wound up distributing them during the extended socializing that went on after the shower events were done. The refreshment was welcome after all the sweet treats and I was very glad we had them to offer.

To make these, simply peel off the existing water bottle label, which is pretty easy to do. Then cut strips of scrapbook paper {we used honeycomb to go with the “Bee” theme} that are large enough to wrap around the bottle. I believe I got five, maybe six, strips per scrapbook sheet for the small Deer Park bottles? Using double-sided tape, just seal them at the back.

water bottlesI then printed a small design on full-sized label paper. Using a round punch, I cut out the “Bee is for Baby” and then just stuck them in the center. You can find plenty of these designs on ETSY if designing something like this is intimidating, then just print it yourself, punch each one out and you have a practical and cute party accent.

Phew! I will be back with a few more details, especially regarding the favors and some of the decor but for now I will leave it at that. If you have questions, please let me know in the comments.

Thanks for stopping by!

Terry’s Baby Shower

For those of you who follow us regularly, you know that one of us is expecting a baby boy very soon! And if you are new, that would be Terry!

photo-41

After weeks of prepping and coordinating– after all planning a party for someone who plans parties for a living is a challenging thing to do–we hosted her Baby Tea last weekend. I had the best time coordinating this event with several other of her dear friends, though I think I probably enjoyed the event just as much as the guest of honor.

We knew we wanted this shower to be as much about Terry as her baby. This is her third boy, and much as she would love to be welcoming a little girl, since she will now remain the family “Queen Bee” we chose that as the theme of the shower.

The event was held at a local Tea Room. I can’t say enough wonderful things about our experience with Tea Time, the were so accommodating, the food was perfect and they put up with our blogger/Type A craziness which included completely changing their usual pink decor to yellow and black for the event! {If you are in the Washington DC/Northern Virginia area, I highly recommend them for a ladies or girls event!}.

So, here are some of the many pretty images from the event.

It was a wonderful way to celebrate both Terry and her new little one. The day ended with one of my co-hostesses reading the sweetest poems about baby boys.  I will be back with a follow-up post on some of the items you see we used for party decor and more details. And before we know it, I am sure Terry will have some exciting baby news to share!

“Apple of my Eye” Baby Shower

An Ikea Frame with a Custom "Apple of her Eye" Sign

Last year my dear friend Sara was pregnant with her 4th child and her 1st boy. She has 3 adorably sweet little girls so I knew that she needed a bit more blue added to her baby wardrobe. Being a mom of two boys, I felt it was my duty to shower her with love and a bit of advice when it comes to on snips, snails and puppy dog tails.
I have to admit that this party was almost a year ago so I really apologize for the delay. With Autumn around the corner, I felt it was the perfect time to share an Apple themed Soiree and I hope you agree.

Table Scape: Chantilly lace place mats from Belgium, Vintage Glass Tray Plates, Green Apple accents and Green Hydrangea's from Amy's Garden

Centerpiece: I love this large black tray centered on my dinning room table. It was a gift from my Mother-in-law and I think is the perfect contrast to all the cream and green. The delectable treat displayed on a small cake tier is Baked Bree with melted caramel, dried apples, cranberries and pecans- Sinful and AMAZING!!!

Check out those antique plates with cup and corner ash tray.

The Menu: Creamy Tomato Bisque and an Apple Walnut Salad

Favors: I love these favors from JP Creatables. She is a cookie designer here in Northern VA and she is AMAZING. The basket, the wooden apples and the cloth napkin came with the cookies. It was her way to "display" them for me. They were worth every penny and I still have the basket and apples for a fall inspired vignette.

Dessert: Caramel Apple Cheese Cake

Black, White and Lime Baby Shower

Hi everyone!

I am so happy to be back especially after this past weekend of party planning.  My dear friend Trinity is pregnant with her first baby and I had the honor of throwing her a baby shower.  The weather was hot, sunny and a bit humid but the party really turned out great.  I had a 24 lovely women join us for a luncheon featuring delicious food, motherly words of advice and of course lots of adorable baby gifts.

The Invite with adorable lime green stroller

Trinity is such a stylish gal that I wanted her party to be a bit more sleek and modern, just like her.  She is also not finding out the sex of the baby (boy, boy, boy) so I had to choose an ambiguous color palette.  Amy, my Magnolia Lane partner-in-crime, created this amazing invite and our theme of lime, black and white took off.

We tried to add a few adorable details to make this shower more “baby”. First, Amy created cute tags for the lime green Jones Soda’s which read BABY Jones, how is that for adorable and creative?  I also pulled my son’s hand made white cradle out of storage and used that as our gift “table”.
