Simply On Sunday

I hope you are having a relaxing Sunday, and if you are lucky enough to have a long weekend that you are making the most of the extra time off! We left mid-week last week for a quick family trip to Cape May, New Jersey and returned home late last night so I am so grateful for a recovery day today. A quiet day at home is always the best way to ease back in after a whirlwind trip.

I snapped a few pictures of my favorite places there, like the beautiful fall decor at the Peter Shields Inn (top) or Congress Hall (above). We’ve spent quite a bit of time there as my in-laws have lived in the area for most of my marriage. Cape May is one of the loveliest little beach towns, if you have been there you know. It’s unexpectedly charming {and the complete opposite of any reality show “Jersey Shore” images that may come to mind} and the fall has always been my very favorite time to visit. We were blessed with unseasonably warm temperatures this weekend, comfortable enough that my kids even enjoyed a swim in the heated pool at my brother in law’s beach condo Saturday morning.

Cape May pulls out all the decor stops in the Fall. It has a perfectly walkable mall filled with shops, restaurants, and bakeries {don’t leave without fudge, you can bet we didn’t}, so we enjoyed some time there before pulling out of town yesterday.

We made this trip for a family memorial service for my late Father in Law, who was a physician in the area over the last decade. Prior to moving there in pre-retirement, my in-laws owned a Victorian beach house in Cape May while my husband was growing up, so you can imagine there are epic tales of his summer beach adventures with his eleven brothers and sisters.  While the weekend was good and hard at the same time, the family time together and the beautiful weather were both healing.  Being married into a very large Irish Catholic family is always an adventure (and so much fun) so I always feel a sense of let down when we say our goodbyes and head home and this weekend was certainly no exception.

So now, before I start the post-trip laundry and try to get a grip on the week ahead, I have a few other things to share. There are just a little bit more than 10 weeks until Christmas, I know we are barely into Fall but I wanted to mention that the pre-Sale for The Holiday Planner will start this week, I expanded it to 20 pages this year and I included a Thanksgiving planner for those of you who may be hosting the holiday {more details in this post HERE}.

I found small relief from my post-trip blues this morning perusing the LOFT sale over my coffee. I scored two sweaters that were each just $20!  I know, I couldn’t resist, even with the shipping they were less than $50 for TWO sweaters.  I only packed one cardigan on our weekend trip but wore it every night we were there so I knew these would be a good investment.

I had the hardest time deciding between this wrap cardigan in pink or classic black but in the end, I decided on the pink. I love the look of this blush color with washed denim for a casual day look, but I also know that I’ll dress this up with black pants, leopard heels and a pearl statement necklace for holiday events.

I also scooped up this basic navy belted cardigan for 60% off which made it just $20, as much blue as I wear I figured it would fit perfectly in my wardrobe. A few other pieces that caught my eye were this embroidered cardigan is also just $20, as flower embroidery is such an in look for this Fall, and this sweater which was in our Fall Favorite Trends post which is also on sale. The sale is sitewide, but I just thought the deals were especially good on sweaters today, which is timely with temperatures dropping.

An excellent journaling devotional

Finally, I have been meaning to circle back from our Day in the Life post and mention that when I wrote that I mentioned I had just ordered this devotional journal, but now that I am knee deep in it I love it so much. It’s written for a younger girl (so if you have teenage daughters this would be perfect for them) but I am enjoying it too even at my age. It’s not too heavy, it’s very readable yet thought-provoking; it’s a nice perspective for each day so I highly recommend.

Enjoy your Sunday!

XO,

  1. I bet the trip was bittersweet. The pictures are lovely. What a large family! My FIL was one of 12 and my MIL one of 9, but my hubby was his momm’as only ;-0 Great deal on those sweaters. I need to go take a peek. Have a blessed week friend.
