Happy Fri-Yay everyone! I am SO ready for this weekend to arrive, anyone with me? The internet seems to be buzzing these days with the concept of a capsule wardrobe, so today I thought I’d share my favorite spring ‘basics’. I feel like the capsule idea has been fueled by the Marie Kondo organizing trend, I am guessing I am not the only one that feels the need to simplify my closet along with other aspects of my life.

I did a massive closet purge in January, but even after doing that I admitted to myself that like most people, I probably wear 20% of what is in my closet 80% of the time. Once I fully processed that, I have been trying to be better about impulse purchases or buying clothes specifically to wear to one event. It was enlightening to spend some time looking at what I already had and tended to wear most. It helped me see what I needed to purchase to fill in some gaps, then I pulled together several spring outfits to cover me for pretty much any occasion.
We’ve had cooler temps this week so the above has been my go-to outfit. The striped boatneck shirt {2017 update–similar: how cute is this Kate Spade version?} is SO soft, I pair it with my same favorite jeans and add the gold accessories to at least pretend it’s spring around here. I totally heart Jack Rogers sandals {they were Jackie Kennedy’s favorite, so that’s good enough for me 🙂 } and the reversible tote is perfect to hold all the stuff I lug around. I often drop my cross-body bag in it along with my computer and planner so I can get work done wherever the day takes me. The tote bag has so many rave reviews and they have some new colors for spring. The necklace is from HERE, but a tip– keep your eyes on Jane.com as they have this style often too.
There are a few other articles of clothing that are on my essential list that I realized I didn’t photograph like white jeans and a gray boyfriend tee, which I pair with a fun necklace, I’d probably wear that outfit daily if I could get away with it!
I am not sure I’ll stop shopping completely now that I have organized these outfits but it was an interesting exercise, and now I know I can reach for them when needed. I can’t see myself going totally over to the capsule wardrobe concept with only 20 items in black, white and navy as some people do, but there is an appeal in simplifying. Have you tried that?
So what did I miss? What Spring fashion basics can you not live without?
Here’s to the weekend everyone!
