Holiday Open House – Christy’s Home at 11 Magnolia Lane (Part 1)

Nutcracker Ballet Christmas Decor | 11 Magnolia Lane

It’s almost Christmas, and I am the very. last. stop on our Holiday Home Tour.  I am banking on the fact that you all are too busy to even peek at my house because I’m not sure I am in the same league with all of the talented bloggers who have filled the month of December for us! (see at the end of this post for links to every one of our amazing participants)

Even though I had good intentions, last year’s home tour {see it here} didn’t include my children’s rooms, and so I thought I would be a little non-traditional and start with their rooms this year.  They’re so fun to decorate!

First, my daughter’s room.  She loves ballet and spends 15-20 hours dancing every single week.  So, of course, we have a lot of Nutcracker and ballet decor in the room!

The ballet barre is one that I built for under $20 (the tutorial is here).  The framed posters are performances she’s been in, and the programs are from some of the ballets that we’ve attended together.  We decorate with pointe shoes because she has so many “dead” pairs–she goes through about a pair a month!

Her room is crazy big (bigger than our master!) in this house, which is why we have room for a 4′ ballet barre.  She also has a sitting area–I kid you not–with the thrift store loveseat that I reupholstered for her and another little chair that I slipcovered.  It is the Charlie Brown Christmas tree of slipcovers and I will never write a tutorial on how to sew one!

My son’s room usually looks like {this}, but even though he’s fourteen, he still likes me to decorate a little bit. So I added the Army nutcracker and my mother’s old paper mache Santa boot, filled with fresh greens.

He adores maps, so this “Joy to the World” map printable by Angela Hardison is perfect.  And, of course, the hand grenade–perfect teen boy decor, but probably not very Christmasy!

I’ll show you my laundry room and then I’ll finish the rest of the house in Part 2, later in the week.

Even though this laundry room isn’t as cute as the one in our last house {here}, I still spend quite a bit of time in there (more than I would like!!), so it gets a tree, too.

Small clothespins make the perfect “ornaments.”  The other pieces are from my daughter’s doll house.

OK, I’ll be back soon with the downstairs and the outside.  Here’s a peek at the living room:

We are fortunate to have lots of woods behind our house, so I go out back with the pruning shears and cut tons of Georgia pine and magnolia leaves to dress up my faux roping with the real deal.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look at (part of) our house!
