Spray Paint Makes Everything Better {New Martini Bar}

Its no secret we shake up a few martinis around here {see HERE, HERE, and HERE if you are thirsty, or below.}

We have other areas where we tend to mix or serve drinks, but this little wine rack has been with my husband and me since our newlywed days. It’s been relegated to a dining room corner, and while I didn’t really want to get rid of it there wasn’t much exciting about it anymore. Its days were getting numbered.

However, I have been on a huge “gold” kick, spray painting pretty much anything that doesn’t move Rust-Oleum’s Metallic Gold (this exact color). It was one of those light bulb moments, and suddenly this wine rack was next on this list.  I was feeling pretty indifferent about it before, and now I admit I LOVE it.

This project is proof that a little spray paint can resurrect just about anything. It’s just so much more interesting now, don’t you think?

A few different accessories on the top,  and this boring wine rack has started its next life as a spruced-up Martini Bar.

The cute martini napkins were part of my welcome present from our visit to Christy’s this holiday. She also brought me the gold martini glass as part of a hostess present many years ago, this is the last one that remains. I figured it was good to immortalize it on the blog before I broke it. Which, I inevitably will. The tray was a birthday present from my Mom, so I can’t tell you the source but I adore it and it’s perfect in its new spot. The dotted frame was 58 cents at Target, a nice little bargain, if you hurry they probably have a few left {considering my Target had about 100!}.

Here is the before and after just one more time, because I am just tickled by how much I like my new gold “Martini Bar” now.

Projects like this leave me wondering, how did people get by before there was spray paint?

  1. Fabulous transformation. Looks so chic now! I’m amazed at what a little spray paint did for this piece. Wow!

  2. What a great idea to paint it gold…it transformed into a very elegant piece!…Great job!…

  3. Jessica says:

    Love this. I have a similar piece I could transform as well. Can you tell me exactly what paint was used?

    • HI Jessica–the paint was Rustoleum spray paint, in the metallic collection–just the metallic gold color (has the bright gold cap!) I purchased it at Home Depot. Good luck, let us know how it comes out!

  4. Amy, I just read this and love it! What a difference a little spray paint makes and I agree, what did people do before? I guess everything was a bit boring. 🙂 Love the tray!

    • Hi Pat, yes I think you are right, things stayed dull and boring 🙂 Aren’t we so much luckier now? Have a great day!
