Our New Home: Back Porch Decorated for Fall

Last week, I showed off my back porch over at Savvy Southern Style for Kim’s readers.  She does a great weekly feature called “My Favorite Room,” and right now, this is my favorite room (OK, outdoor room!) since it’s finally cool enough in Savannah to be able to stand being outside!  In fact, the day I snapped these photos, it was 85 degrees outside.

If you’re a regular, you saw how I decorated our covered porch to make a faux-screened porch {here}.  These inexpensive Ikea panels are everywhere in my house!  When we eat outside, I just untie the panels and let them hang loose to keep the bugs away.

chippy white iron table and burlap seat cushions

The chippy white table was a trash-day find back when we lived in Virginia Beach (you can’t beat free!), and I bought the chairs at a flea market and recovered the seats with burlap a few weeks ago.  I’m not sure I’d want to sit on burlap in the summer, wearing shorts, but it’s just fine in the fall and winter when we’re in pants or wrapped up in blankets.

The conversation area is a great place to curl up with a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine!) and a book.  In a few more weeks we’ll bring out the fire pit, but it’s still too hot right now.

The back gate leads out to the woods.  My kids like to explore back there, but not as much as the cat does!  The cat went missing the day we arrived in Savannah, and thanks to his microchip he came back to us about six weeks later.  He’s different now, somehow (like Stephen King’s Pet Sematary–scary!), but that’s a story for another day.

I strung some grapevine lights inside the porch and we plug them in at night.  And just like the sign says, “Every hour is happy hour” at our house!

Speaking of which, this whipped apple cider martini is a recipe that Amy’s husband invented, and it’s one of my favorite Fall drinks.  If you’d like to try it, the link to the recipe is {here}.  Yum!

At this point, the blankets are still wishful thinking, but maybe in a few more weeks!

Last but not least, the dog photobombed about twenty of my snaps, so I finally just decided to leave him in the shot–he matches the Fall color scheme, after all!

  1. I LOVE THIS!! Going to have to show this to Hubs. Our base housing is very similar & this would be perfect!

  2. I love your wicker. Is it made for outdoor use? How has it held up? Do you leave your cushions out all the time?
