Outside Entertaining Rack

Baker's rack spray painted a bright color and used as a drink bar on the porch

This baker’s rack has been completely repurposed into a drink server. You can see my summer “Girls’ Night Out” party I hosted and how I used it as drink bar on the porch {here}.

This baker’s rack was sitting in my garage covered with junk for many years. I even tried to give it away, but there weren’t any takers (no surprise)! It came to us from a “discount” store, we had purchased it for some extra kitchen storage in a rental home we lived in very briefly. After that, it became a collect-all in my garage and was just a dirty, dusty mess.

I decided to give it a coat of bright green paint; here’s the one I used:

I have a special baby shower coming up here in about a month with a green and black theme, I thought this would be the perfect shelf to hold the gifts (or something!?).

In the meantime, it sure looks cute holding drinks and plants on my deck.

So, for all my neighbors who were wondering what the heck I was doing spray painting this last weekend, here is the finished product. It’s cute, isn’t it?

  1. What a great transformation! I love the color choice and feel totally jealous of the sunshine I see. :-) Now it seems more like an outdoor entertainment/buffet area!

  2. Amy, YOu gave this pretty rack new life with that spiffy color of paint. It is wonderful~ and does not even look like the same piece. This will be the nicest rack to use outside after the shower!

  3. So fun!

  4. LOVE this and love the color you chose! Also — what a difference it made removing the drawer! I don’t think I would have thought to do that but it works! Thanks for sharing!

  12. Amy, I loved this!! The color is great (looks like a different shade in some of the pics on my screen). I’ve been on the lookout for something like this for my deck for ages, but no luck. How are the wood pieces holding up? We don’t have a covered deck, so ours would be out in the open…..

Thanks for linking up! I featured this today. :)

    • Thanks for the feature, Amanda! You are awesome :)
Mine is outside–for now, sitting on my deck. I might not leave it out all summer but I figure all it needs is another coat of spray paint if it starts to wear. I am just trying to figure out what I can put on it, other then plants, to decorate it that will stand up to rain etc. Hmmm….???

Hope you had a wonderful Easter!

  13. I love this! That is such a pretty green – would love to know what paint you used! Great job! Thanks for sharing your creation!

    • Thank you…I used Rustoleum Spray Paint, in Satin/Green Apple. I also used a spray paint primer first. But it was very easy, and I love how it came out. I don’t know that I will leave it outside all summer (its not under a roof) but so far its holding up fine.
      Thanks for stopping by!

  14. Wow! This made me laugh when I saw it over at a link party and said, “Hey that looks a little like mine. I would have the perfect place for something like that outside!” And then I come over here and see your first picture is the exact same one! I’m going to have to give this a try. Great Job!

  15. What a great idea!! I love the color. I am going to some garage sales this weekend and will be looking for one of these:) Great idea, thanks for sharing!

  16. Where exactly can you buy this exact baker’s rack?

  17. I found a nice bakers rack at a city wide garage sale. I first used it as a coffee statio. Later I put it in front of a window that is of the same with and put plants on it. The underneath shelves I used for storage. It has wine racks on it and I do use those as well. A very versatile piece of furniture.

  18. Saw this on pin. I have an original with wooden shelving. I guess Olive green was the color back in the 40’s eeh? I am thinking about putting some petunias in one of my drawers. Your s turned out lovely.

  19. P.S.. I found mine at a Salvation Army store. Bought it for only $25.00.

  20. thank you for the idea! Just finished mine today. So happy with the outcome. For those of you planning on doing this, you will need TWO cans of spray paint. FYI :(
